.....morning everyone!

I'm 34+4 and just had my midwife appt, the bottom number of my bp was ok but the top was 150 then 145 so i've gotta go back next week to have it checked, i'm supposed to be working till 30th March but she said if it hasn't gone down i will have to stop next Mon boo hoo ;(

I feel fine, she asked if my vision was ok and if i've had headaches/swelling etc which i said no to! Now i think my eyes are funny but i wear contacts so i'm being paranoid, plus i think my hands and feet look huge but they don't and i remembered i had 2 paracetamol last week for a teeney niggle in my head when i woke up so i'm being silly!

My mind is in overdrive though it's the fist appointment i've had that's not been perfect!

I was a size 18 and over 14st when i fell pregnant, i've not weighed myself since but my bump has ballooned the last 4/5 weeks so i dread to think what i weigh now, it will be more than ever in my life so mabye that could be the bp thiing!

I don't even know why i'm posting as i don't have a question lol

I suppose is it normal to have dodgy BP at this stage has anyone else had it? x

Hi MillyStar, presumably you MW also checked your urine and it came up okay? (it would read NAD on your notes) If that's the case she's being sensible asking you to go back next week for another check and telling you to keep an eye on the other stuff. If it was me and I was feeling at all worried about anything, I'd just call my MW to put my mind at rest but I know some MWs are difficult to get hold of. Also, remember to keep a count of baby movements. But slightly raised BP is a sign that you should probably slow down a bit - I know it's easier said than done though!

Fan. x
27 wks today!

milly, I don't want to worry you but no, it's not normal to have dodgy BP at 34 weeks. 150 systolic is pretty high. Swelling in your hands is also not normal. Please, please report to your MW immediately any odd symptoms - funny vision, headaches, suddden reappearance of bad heartburn etc. Better to be safe than sorry!

You might want to check out the pre-eclampsia mentalling thread for other women's experiences (I'll bump it for you).

Thanks ladies i did my own BP at home at lunch time and it was down to 138 by lunch time so still a bit high but not as bad!

I looked through my notes aswell and it's been 148 at one appointment which that midwife said was fine how strange?!

Baby has been very active today she gave me a big kick about 20 mins ago, i really don't think my hands are swollen i think i'm just so paranoid! I will read through the other thread now thank you

Heya Milly, just wanted to let you know your not alone. I've been to midwife and had high BP over 5 times, with pre-eclampsia symptoms. It isn't normal, but if your midwife seems fairly calm over it I'd try not to worry. If she thought anything was severely wrong, she would have sent you straight to hospital.

If you do feel any symptoms, please ring the antenatal unit in hospital and they'll advise you what to do. Try not to stress over it or think too much about it, it will only raise your BP and it can be psychological as well. As long as baby is active and your urine is OK (did they check it?) then it's fine for now.

ardenbird · 05/03/2012 15:59

I just got back from MW with same thing! I had traces of protein in my urine, so she's having me do an first-morning urine sample and visit student MW at the hospital tomorrow to take BP again. I hope everything's okay. Tomorrow is my last day at work, so I should be able to take it easy then. Maybe I'm just stressed trying to get everything done.

MillyStar · 05/03/2012 16:14

Yes my urine was perfectly fine it was just my bp!

Now i think i'm making other things up, when i got up on the bed to be measured etc she asked if i was out of breath, i laughed it off becuase i was DESPERATE for the loo and it was broke at the docs but i've been googling pre eclampysia and shortness of breath can be a symptom!

I think i'm just scaring myself with bloody google, i'm reading through the pre eclampysia thread though and it's scary how many people have barely any symptoms!

I feel absolutley fine within myself so i think i will speak to the midwife again next Monday and if i feel unwell at all or see stars or have a headache or anything i will go to triage straight away, my tummy was measuring fine and bump has grown so baby seems to be growing nicely!

All this paranoia is driving me mad x

They don't tend to worry until protein shows in your urine so try not to stress over it - easier said than done! The shortness of breath could literally be the way the baby is, it tends to ease up apparently when baby engages.

Google is not your friend! As long as you feel fine and baby moving, then it's OK just they'll keep an eye on you which is the best thing tbh! Paranoia tends to come with pregnancy I've concluded too!

newnamechangeforthistoo · 05/03/2012 17:10

Another thing they look for is:

If for example your foot is swollen, press down hard on it with your thumb and if it stays indented (and whiter than the rest of your skin for example) it's also a sign of pre-eclampsia. Think it's called pitting odema if you want to look it up properly.

I had pre-eclampsia at the end of my last pregnancy and I think that was one of the symptoms my midwife noticed first.

balkanscot · 05/03/2012 18:15

Similar scenario to mine: last two times at MW appointments my blood pressure was 138/82 and (just last Friday) 150/80. Previously my blood pressure was around 120/78 mark. MW didn't seem to be too concerned as my urine was fine, I have no swelling or other symptoms (am 34 weeks tomorrow). It could be I am just getting more stressed as I get more tired day after day as I am still working full time for another week and a half.

I am slightly uncomfortable with 150/80 but if MW says it's OK, then I believe her, she is more qualified on these matters than I am. Just can't wait to finish work which I am sure is putting me under additional strain (8 hours at work + commuting).

MillyStar · 05/03/2012 20:30

Well I've been fine all night I think I just scared myself on google! Glad I've got an extra appointment on Monday if it's still high I'm gonna ask for a pre eclampsia blood test!

I make myself laugh how paranoid I am, baby was giving me a good kick before so I was happy then I thought omg what if she's trying to tell me something wrong lol what we like!!
