Appointment for scan - should I query this with my midwife?

I am 12 weeks pregnant and I had a call last week offering me an appointment to see the consultant on the 26 March, I'll be having my first scan at the same time. I'll be around 15 weeks at that point.

I think the issue is that they tend to do the scan on the same day as the consultant appointment, so the date had to be on a Monday as he only visits this area on a Monday.

I'm not sure whether to call/ text my midwife and see if this is ok or not, do you think 15 weeks is too late or should I just wait until then?

15 weeks will be too late for certain tests (nuchal iirc? I'm not sure, I'm only 9 weeks atm Blush ) but sometimes that's all that can be offered as they're busy. I'd query it incase it was a mistake with your dates, but it may well be all they can fit you in for.

Do you get offered the NT scan in your area as I understand this would be 2 late for this to be completed, If you want to have the downs scan then I would defintaely query it, if not then it shouldnt be a problem. HTH

Thanks both - I've just given her a call now and left a message on her answerphone. I'm not 100% sure if they do have the nuchal scan here, but I think I would want to check for downs if only to get myself prepared if there is a problem.

I'm not fussed on having the scan on the same day as the consultant appointment so I'm don't see why they cannot do the scan first with the sonographer and then let me see the consultant a couple of weeks later iyswim.

I didn't have my dating scan until 15 weeks during my first pregnancy. I queried it and was told that that was the earliest they could fit me in. They don't do NT testing on the NHS here though, so there wasn't any need to fit me in any earlier, it was just frustrating! Now that dd is 4 and at school I've noticed that loads of the children in her class have birthdays around the same time as her - there must have been a baby boom Wink! This pregnancy I had my scan at 12+2 by my dates, I was dated at 13 weeks when I had it though. But I'm not seeing a consultant until 22 weeks.

Thanks, I've just read the screening notes the midwife gave me and they don't offer the NT scan here- Wales, so guess it's just a dating scan really. Been reading about the NT scans so think may pay for a private one as I'm 35 and I guess the risks increase with age.

If you live in Wales and want a NT scan you should contact Brian Beatty's clinic at Spires Hospial Cardiff. The cost is £190 and they're lovely even doing scans in the evening and saturdays if you're working. The clinic is called Innermost Secrets (I know very odd name) and all the details are on the web just google Innermost Secrets. Very bet of luck :)
