Tea - does it make anyone else sick?

I am pregnant and I cannot seem to tolerate tea. I had this with my first child too - it was much worse then and I would actually vomit soon after. Now it just makes me gag.

I don't know what it is that causes this, I seem to tolerate other drinks with caffeine in. I can drink coke and I think I can drink coffee with no issues.

Perhaps it's the tannin in the tea, I'm not sure.

Anyone else?

The very thought of having a cup of tea made me feel awful very early on and now (17+2) I have to limit myself to three cups a day. With my DD I couldn't drink it the whole way through my pregnancy because it made me feel so ill. I still can't imagine drinking coffee though whereas before I was pregnant I was addicted to black coffee.

Tea made me violently sick for the whole if my pregnancy even now ds is 4 I don't enjoy it much Sad

I'm totally off it at 8 weeks, can't remember whether I went off it with DS1, but am having to force a couple down at work so people don't suspect!

Earlier on in my pregnancy, tea gave me awful burps! I love tea but I couldn't drink it, especially in public.

It did.

I had lovely white teeth when Baby Goo was born :)

I love tea and was gutted that in the first 16-20 weeks it turned my stomach. So was on herbal. But it passed. Thank god

tea made me sick in all of my pregnancies. Even the smell of it made me feel sick, or even be sick sometimes.Stopped making it for my exh for that reason, amongst others. Same with coffee but coke actually made me feel better for some reason. Tea and coffee making me feel sick indicator of pregnancy before pregnancy test and very soon went up to being sick after these drinks.

And the aversion to tea and coffee lasted years after, even though it didn't make me feel sick.

Tea made me sick with first two, this time around I'm fine with tea but sick with coffee!

Thanks everyone, glad I'm not the only one. Sometimes I quite fancy a cup of tea and then when my husband offers me one I say yes, then regret it an hour or so later.

Last time, after my DD was born - I started to drink tea again and had no issues with it. Perhaps have drank more than ever since she's been here, but maybe that's getting down to getting older too!

Yes, although when not pregnant I drink about 10 cups a day!
For me I think it's the milk. I can just about stomach black decaff at the moment.
With my other 2 I was the same for the first 12 weeks or so then I could drink it again.
At the moment most liquids seem to make me feel grim and or make me sick :( !

With DS1 I went off tea at about 8 weeks and was gutted - I don't drink huge amounts (2/3 cups a day), but I do love the stuff! Straight after I gave birth I was offered a cuppa and turned it down, but others in my antenatal class said it was the best cuppa they'd ever had!

This time round I'm fine having one cup a day, but a second or third turns my stomach. Ridiculously I find the next best thing when I fancy a cup is a glass of nesquik!

SarryB · 05/03/2012 18:04

I was off tea until about 20 weeks - pretty much the same week that I stopped having morning sickness. I'm still not in love with it as much as I was before - used to have about 10-12 cups a day, now it's more like 3.

It was the milk that was turning my stomach, I could only drink very very very weak black tea. Which was pretty difficult when I'm a renowned tea-drinker and trying to hide the pregnancy!!
