Hiya I'm 32 + 1 and have just started drinking raspberry leaf tea. I love herbal teas and have missed drinking them during pregnancy so enjoying it :) I don't no too much about why it's recommend at the end of pregnancy - please enlighten me!

Thanks Hayley x

It's supposed to help make your contractions more effective so hopefully a quicker labour for you and then also to help your uterus shrink back quickly afterwards. I love raspberry leaf tea.

I like it cold with ice!
Someone else said on here today that it's really bad and makes your uterus taut and tough throughout labour so hinders more than helps.
That's the first time I've ever heard that though.

Well this is purely anecdotal of course, but I drank it with DS and had a 4 hour labour, so would love to see how quick it would have been if that was hindered!! Grin

madaboutmadmen · 04/03/2012 21:46

i drank it but didn't start until 37 weeks following midwife's advice as it can induce early labour. 3 and a half hour labour on 1st one to may be something to it.

I couldn't stand the taste of it so I used to cool it and gulp it down fast, 2 cups a day. Just found out you can get tablets Grin

That's what I do mad, though it is growing on me.
That reminds me, there's one cooling in the kitchen right now...

Down in one!! Grin

madaboutmadmen · 04/03/2012 21:54

well done!

The info that it can induce labour is wrong. So is the info that it cause uterus to go taut. You can drink from 32 weeks increasing amount progressively. It potentially improves the quality of your contractions.

I bought some yesterday to start taking at 32 weeks (tomorrow), the lady in the shop recommended one cup a day at this stage and then 2 a day from 36. She said to stop drinking it if I started getting Braxton Hicks though.

I had tablets with dd2 as couldn't stand the tea. My labour was much easier then dd1 and shorter was only a hour but that maybe down to fact it was my 2nd and I knew what to expect but it could also be down to the tablets who knows :)

spannermary · 05/03/2012 11:17

Where do you get it from? I've not found it in supermarkets - is it more of a Holland and Barrett type thing? :)

Seona1973 · 05/03/2012 11:18

I got mine in Holland and Barrett - tablets and tea

littlemissnormal · 05/03/2012 11:18

I was sure it didn't hinder! Lucky really with the amount of capsules I've just bought!
They're half price in holland and Barrett at the moment if anyone's interested.

spannermary · 05/03/2012 11:57

Great - thanks!

justhayley · 05/03/2012 22:49

Ooo I love the taste but I'm a real herbal tea addict - or was pre pregnancy. Iv started having one at breakfast every morning will increase closer to the time. I'm not sure how much I believe things like thus work but I say it's def worth a shot!

Oh & I also got mine from holland and Barrets although any health food shop would sell it - even eBay and amazon have it
