Antidepressants and cardiac scan...?

Been told by my midwife that because I'm on antidepressants (citolapram) while preg (35+2), I need to be booked in to the hospital for a cardiac scan. Heart problems weren't mentioned at all by my GP, nor are they mentioned at all in the info that comes in with the tablets, and not even Google can help me?! Shock

I realised after speaking to her, that I don't even know whether she meant a scan for my heart or the baby??? I assumed she meant me though? :(

Does anyone know anything about this? I have my normal 36w appt later in the week, so will ask then anyway...

My friend has just been instantly taken off these and given fluoxetine instead (Prozac) as she has been having heart palpitations.

It is a known side effect of citalopram to effect the heart. I'd imagine they are keeping you checked for labour as its the workout of your life!

Any concerns though you could switch quite easily I think. I also stopped citalopram quickly and was on fluoxetine, for something different.

But if you've felt no different, don't worry too much. Good luck x

Think it's a relatively new discovery which might explain why tour not finding much info

Thanks :)
I've had fluoxetine before (when not preg) not sure why the doctor put me on these instead (she probably did say, I've just forgotten!)

They seem to make me feel like I've had a drink (not drunk, just that feeling you get after the first glass of wine), but neither my midwife nor the doctor were bothered by me planning a homebirth while I'm on them..?

I'm 6weeks pregnant and my doctor advised me to come off my fluoxetine as apparently there's a small amount of research to suggest they may cause heart defects in the baby. Obviously the may not be the same for the medication you're on.

I think it might make a difference how far along you are, I've only just gone on them this week and only have 5 weeks to go, so baby is already fully formed?

I know that my other doctor refused to give me anything at all when I had AND with DS, which is why I put it off as long as possible this time too.
