I am 10 weeks pregnant and just back from 2 months in India. Had no idea I was newly pregnant when I went. I had a scan there when I found out I was pregnant 3 weeks ago but since have had a really bad tummy bug for about 4 days so suddenly got paranoid that things aren't all ok. I will be getting my NHS scan in 2 weeks but my Mum and Dad (I am staying with them this weekend) really want me to get another scan privately today just to check all is ok as I have been having really bad backache.

I have seen there are some risks associated with having too many ultrasounds but not been able to find out how many is too many. Would it be safer to wait until my NHS scan or do you think it's ok to go and get another scan today?

I have been quite worried about it all I have to say, just with being so ill - the flight home was horrific!

Thanks :)

Its okay to go and get another scan today Smile.

I had 4 early pregnancy scans with my last DC and then the standard 2 scans and he was just fine.

This time I've had 1 private early scan, 1 EPU early scan, 1 dating scan, 1 private gender scan at 17 weeks, 1 20 week anomaly scan and a repeat 2 weeks later due to bad positioning of the baby. So 6 altogether and baby is fine.

Scans are perfectly safe. With dd I had 3 early ones because of bleeding, plus the 2 standard ones, plus one whilst I was in labour because she had got herself into an awkward position, and she's fine (still awkward at age 4 though Grin)

This time, I had a scan at 6w, my dating scan at 13, we're going for a private one at 16 (to take dd and because after a mmc I'm paranoid!) and the 20w one, plus if more are needed I'll have them.

So go for it if it'll reassure you Smile

I've had six as well as the consultant wanted to monitor the baby's growth - assume it's safe as apparently fortnightly scans are a normal response when they're concerned about size, and the baby seems quite happy!

Ok thanks. I think I will. I do feel a bit silly but it's a stressful process pregnancy. You just want to know everything is ok!
Thanks so much for your responses
