Any experience of pregnancy with low progesterone?

I am 8+1. At 7+1 I had a blood test which showed my progesterone level was only 7.37. The doctor phoned me yesterday to tell me. I now have progesterone gel that I have to apply every day.

I have had no spotting or cramps. My HGC levels were normal in that same blood test.

I am very worried. I feel like I don't know if my baby is alive or dead, or if the low progesterone indicates a pregnancy that is not viable, or if it's just me not producing enough to keep a healthy pregnancy going.

I have one healthy DD, and I had an early miscarriage last year.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

I'm afraid I can't help but just wanted to say that having progesterone tested in early pregnancy is not a usual test to have so therefore lots of us may have/had had low progesterone but been completley oblivious to the fact and had perfectly healthy pregnancies.

Does that make sense?! Try to relax, as far as I'm aware a normal HCG result bodes very well as does the fact that you have had no cramping or spotting.

Hopefully somebody more usuful will be along shortly!

Yes, I never had it tested in my pregnancy with DD and wasn't even aware of it being tested this time. It's a new practise so I gues they do things differently. We're in Germany, too, so everything is a bit different anyway.

Hey, I may be able to reassure you a little. I am 8 weeks pregnant and I have been using progestrone suppositries since 5 1/2 weeks when I had blood tests done and they revealed a low level. Two days after beginning the Cylogest, I had bloods done again and my progestrone levels had shot up. I have been told to use them until I reach 12 weeks. I have already had two scans and they show a very very healthy looking bean!!! Do keep positive. x

Hi,
I had low progesterone - picked up as I had had 3 previous m/c and low progesterone in early pregnancy was believed to be the cause.
With this pregnancy I took cylogest (2 x 200mg suppositories per day) from the start until 16 weeks. I'm now 35 weeks pregnant so low prog. is definitely treatable. I know how terrifying it is but at least you have been given something and the situation is being monitored.
Best wishes and good luck x
