Remotest chance of pregnancy - can I use cold remedies?

Hi, there is the remotest chance I'm pregnant because we had SWI this month at exactly the right time, but my period isn't due for 4 days and I'm 45 so its pretty unlikely.

However I've got the stinker of all colds and only slept about 3 hours last night.

If you were me, would you get the Night Nurse and Lemsip Max out? I've already given in and had to resort to using Vicks Sinex just so that I can breathe.

i certainly would! when the embryo is really tiny (if there is one in there) it has its own little yolk sac that feeds it and it doesnt get any of what you get anyway!

No, I wouldn't! I would just take paracetamol and simple linctus. The tiniest of embryo as it would be, can be extremely vulnerable.

If I were you I would. You are not actually pregnant. Women can not be expected to spend two weeks a month pretending to be pregnant. If you are too early to get a positive pregnancy test then you are too early to do any harm. Besides, a lemsip isn't crack cocaine.

If you are really paranoid do a first response early pregnancy test before using the lemsip.

Unless you are actually pregnant, then I'd carry on as normal.

From what I understand, at this stage it's ok, and if it were me (and I currently have a cold) then I would do it... but that's because I'm having to suffer this stupid cold without anything apart from the odd paracetamol and some homemade honey lemon and ginger....

Fingers crossed for your BFP and hope you feel better very soon..

If it's this early then implantation probably hasn't occurred yet, which means the foetus/embryo/baby (whichever you prefer) is not yet hooked up to your blood supply so won't get any of whatever you take.

Missgiraffe1 · 01/03/2012 10:36

Zebedee Personally I wouldn't (but that's just me, and my high paranoia after losses)

And, just saying, but .... developing a stinking cold seems to be quite a common early pg symptom Grin Grin Many of the women I was on a thread with (pregnancy post MC) did, I was one of them.
Good luck!

That's true Missgiraffe I had a rotten cold at the start of my pg with Ds...remember going into the chemist to buy a test, but couldn't buy anything to help with the cold.

RunningOutOfIdeas · 01/03/2012 15:14

I would stick with the Sinex spray and paracetamol.

Aworryingtrend · 01/03/2012 15:18

I am 7+5 weeks pregnant and have had a raging cold and sore throat for 2 weeks. haven't taken anything as I didn't think it was worth the risk, just had hotwater, honey and lemon and steamed my face when I was stuffed up.

PoppyS34wantsgoatscheese · 01/03/2012 16:33

That's a good point Missgiraffe1 I also suffered a really horrible cold right at the beginning of this pg. :o
