How big a fish?

I'm 19 weeks and am at the obsessing-about-stomach-rumblings stage wondering if it is the baby or last nights curry.

Someone described it as like feeling a fish swimming around. A couple of times I've thought I could feel something that felt different from usual but if it was a fish its huge! Its also clearly not a butterfly. Most people seem to say that you know its the baby when you feel it but I'm still unsure so what do people think?

The other thing is I'm quite thin and there's not a lot over my bump and sometimes when I'm lying down and relaxed it feels like I can feel something hard inside bump that shifts away after a short time. I think I can feel pretty clearly where the boundaries of my uterus are and its feels like its inside. Is it possible to feel the baby externally this early?

It sounds like it's probably the baby. It can completely flip over earlier on in pg, which might be why it feels quite a big movement. If it's a feeling unlike the usual digestive rumblings you might have when not pg, then it's likely to be the baby.

I wouldn't be surprised if you are feeling the baby externally, especially if you are slender. I have a lot of padding, I'm now 27 weeks with DC3 and have been able to feel the movements externally for a good few weeks. I've also found that the movements have felt different with all 3 pgs, so it's not surprising people describe the movements differently.

Enjoy!

I wasn't at sure I was feeling movements until about 22 weeks. I was only sure when I felt it externally as wasn't at all sure that the internal feelings weren't just wind!

Think i felt movements about 18-20 weeks and it felt a bit like a weird popping sensation??!! Not butterflys! Now i get kicked fairly often and can feel it externely (i am 23+4) wen its at the front but when i get kicked in the back its very odd n sends a weird srnsation down into my bottom haha!

I wasn't too sure myself at first about the movements but i bet in a week or so you will know for sure :-)

Thanks very much for the replies ladies. It has indeed suddenly all become clear and I realise she's wriggling around all over the place! I had my scan yesterday (a girl not a fish!) and we could see she was right where I could feel her. My placenta is anterior so that might be why I wasn't too sure. My partner and I were lying in bed last night and we could both quite clearly feel her wriggling and kicking. :) :)

Very happy Grin
