Fundal height measurement

Hi this is a stupid question because I know that my baby is growing fine, I am 31 weeks pregnant and measuring 31cm so exactly right as far as midwife concerned. But I am plotting on the top line of the personalised growth chart thingy in my notes. Surely if I am average then I should be measuring in the middle? Also I am a large lady and had a high BMI before pregnancy does this mean that the measurement is likely to be out anyway because of my excess flab. I have a growth scan booked for 34 weeks but as you can probably tell I am petrified of having a large baby.

Fundal height measurements are not particularly accurate (nor are growth scans - they can be out by a lb or 2 and are more likely to overestimate weight than underestimate it!)

What will cause concern is if the measurement suddenly leaps up (or drops down) several centiles - as long as it's following the same line (whichever line that may be for this particular baby) then you shouldn't fret.

Being worried won't make your baby any smaller, please don't be petrified - if it's big, it's big - but there's no way of knowing it's big until he or she is actually born!
