Lactulose in late pregnancy??

Hi, went to chemist to buy lactulose. Pharmacist said to check with midwife before along it as it can start labour off if taken in late pregnancy. Has anyon heard this?

I've been taken spatone since 28 weeks as my iron levels are 9.1. The iron supplements off the doc were making me sick. My levels are still really low so midwife said I had to try with iron tablets again and I'll probs have to go and have the iron on a drip.

I took it every day in pregnancy due to other tablets I was on so should be fine. I didn't take the full dose incase it went the other way IYSWIM!!

I took it on and off during my last pregnancy, and started using it everyday from about 36 weeks to help with that first poo after labour. Will be doing the same this time.

I checked with my GP last time and he said it was fine to take.

I guess the chemist might be thinking that diahorrea (sp) can irritate the womb, which could start off contractions.

Thanks.

Managed to get through to mw who said it was fine.

What dose did you take and when did you take it in conjunction with food/supplements?
