I'm 25 weeks pregnant and my god my bum hurts Sad. Blooming sciatica has been pretty persistant now for a few days and its shooting up my back and down my leg too. Is there any known relief for it, or am I stuck with it for the next 15 weeks?

I know people who swear by acupuncture to help it.

I had sciatica around 25 weeks....agony and I too dreaded it lasting till the end. It came on really suddenly and the only time it was not sore was when I was actually walking...sitting, sleeping was so painful! This may sound weird but I was told to not wear totally flat shoes and even put on a small heel...i always wear flat shoes and dont do heels but i did put on some boots with a slight heel and the pain almost immediately disappeared!

Probably some physio people that may disagree but I think the heel forced me to hold myself differently which took the pressure away from the nerve....or it may all have been a total coincidence, baby moved off the nerve and that is why the pain went! I am now at 37 weeks and have not had any twinges since about 26/27 weeks. Good luck...hope it goes away for you too.

I need help to! I'm 32 weeks and past few days have been the worst. I've had it since getting pregnant but seriously, past few days I am in so much agony, no matter how I sit, lay and even stand it hurts. Its uncomfortable to move around. My lower back, through my hips and thighs. Its getting me depressed and have had enough. What can I do?? I can't afford to go for accupuncture and haven't time to do anything really.

i can only echo the shoe advice....i get it periodically and it always coincides with flat shoes.

More often than not I wear heels and if I do a lot of walking in flats it can cause bother.

I know it's going to sound crazy but I had sciatica and had crystal therapy on it and it COMPLETELY went, I know how painful it is, good luck I hope you find some thing effective

acupuncture. ask for referral, you are entitled to some NHS sessions while pregnant if you have sciatica/hg and some other problems.

good luck, i have sciatica for non pg related issues. unfortunately acupuncture has not proved successful for me, but osteo said lots of people find it helps a lot. And it wont do any harm at all to give it a try.

BlueAndRedMakePurple · 29/02/2012 10:29

I shall consult my mw for referal, in the mean time I don't own a pair of shoes with heels , I'm tall enough and have never needed to wear them.

Hi OP

You have my deepest sympathy - I started with sciatica at around 4 months and dreaded the thought of it last throughout pregnancy.

I found gentle excersize really helped - although in the midst of the pain it seems like the last thing you want to do, but really things like swimming, yoga and walking got me through it! Tara Lee does a great preganancy yoga DVD and pigeon pose was amazing for my sciatica.

I still get twinges every now and again (I'm 34 weeks) but nothing like the severe pain I had a few months back and I can recognise when it's coming on now so make a point of going for a walk on my lunch break or doing my yoga when I get home!

Hope you get some relief soon!
