is it constipation? any advice?

Hopefully looking for more advice. I'm 10wks pg and I think I have constipation - havent been for about 3 days, am very bloated and have a pain in my lower left side - its not there all the time and seems to have got worse over the last few days. its quite sharp sometimesand sems to feel better when i 'pass wind' ( sorry tmi!) I do suffer from mmild IBS but usually have the runs and bloating.

does this sound like constipation? If so, what does anyone recommend - a few from my ante-natal thread have recommended 'lactulose' -can i get this from a chemist? you have to pay for the doctors and no free prescritions here so would rather try and sort it out myself if possible.

any advice would be welcome. thanks!

you can get it from the chemist, i've forgotten to get perscription for my dd once and the chemist gave it to me. try drinking much more water and pureed juices. also eat lots of vegetables and fruits (except bananas) and whole grain foods. weetabix is really good at getting things moving and i think bran flakes is as well. prune juice is meant to be the best thing. can't remember anything else atm but i'll have a think.

ah, those yummy days of early pregnancy. Despite a diet rich in veggies, I would happily sit on the loo for hours trying to pop one out.

TMI, sorry. it all went back to normal at the 12 weeks mark.

thanks. will try and pop to chemist before it closes. have finally been to the loo , but ( tmi warning!) it still feels like I need to go! the pain had lessened though. Am trying to eat sensibly but still quite nauseous - not too bad with fruit smoothies so trying to 'boost' myself with those!

yep u can get it, i've taken it it tastes nice! lol, althou when I mentioned to my m/w about taking it more regular she said that I should switch to brown bread have bran flakes and lots more fruit/veg and roughage as apparently she recons the laxatives can make ur bowles lazy if used as a long term frequent fix. (I started with constipation from about 24 weeks ish)
