20 week scan- EDD changed by two weeks

Thankfully the baby is as healthy as they can say at this stage Smile though I don't fully understand how it all works: the baby was dated at 22 weeks instead of 20 weeks. Could it not be that my baby is bigger than average at 20 weeks. Why does it necessarily mean that it is likely to come 2 weeks earlier?

I've always wondered that aswell, maybe it's more to do with development rather than size?

Did they definitely say your EDD was changed as a result? My understanding is that the 20 week scan is not as reliable for dating as the 12 week, so they won't actually change your EDD? I think they can say that baby is measuring at x number of weeks, but I didn't think they changed any dates as a result. Mine was measuring at 19 weeks at mine, but it hasn't affected my EDD.

My EDD was changed after scans. In fact I had no official EDD because the MW and the consultant gave different EDDs by a week and a half and neither would accept the others dates so my notes had two EDDs on them. So when I went overdue there was much discussion about how overdue I was and when I would have to be induced. Total madness!

I really wish I'd had my brain in gear at the time Blush as I don't know what the consequence will be but will definately have to find out now Confused -Scaredy that does sound like madness and very frustrating after a full 40 of pregnancy!

my edd was changed everytime i went for a scan, still haven't got a clue how they work it out

Oh blackout! Thats just ridiculous. I know most women don't give birth on their actual EDD anyway but still, if it doesn't clarify what's the point?

Joy The annoying thing was that I knew exactly when we had conceived (there wasn't much sex as DD1 was only nearly 6 months at the time) butthey wouldn't listen to me at all! In the end DD2 arrived exactly when I thought she would based on my dates. There was no telling them though!

Scaredy- Haha! You had the last laugh Grin
