i keep getting it, during 2nd tri am 24 weeks tomorrow. some mums know this as it happened the other night and sent me into melt down. well mw says it's all absolutely fine, and i did go in and get checked and cervix was fine no sign of anything odd, but... I keep panicking every time it happens and have convinced myslef that i will go into early labour and baby won't survive. i feel so upset. has anyone had this? or having it and anyone had it and been okay? i long for the nice yellow discharge back....

Happened with all 3 of mine. Happened in the 1st trimester with me. I can hear the 3 of them playing together right now :)

bobblesmama · 25/02/2012 09:11

This has happened to me all through this pregnancy, I'm now just over 34 weeks and can feel her wriggling around just fine.

It was very stressful and didn't really tail off until around 30 weeks but no reason was found.

Hopefully it will stop soon so that you can relax about it and find something else to panic about :)

surfmama · 25/02/2012 09:33

ooo breath.... That is a great help thank you... How can they not know what it is so odd thanks for replies and so positive to hear about your babies .... Breathing now!!

During the first trimester I had spotting but I didn't worry about it. I figured if anything was wrong there'd be more than just a bit.

Snowsister · 25/02/2012 13:23

I had this throughout both pregnancies but more during the second. Dr said it wad cervical erosion. Very scary but everything was fine. Get a check up just to reassure.

HowlonguntilFriday · 25/02/2012 13:25

Off and on from 5 weeks to the end both times. Both children were fine and no cause ever seen on the numerous internals! Still get it from time to time now too (again, no cause to be found!)

surfmama · 25/02/2012 14:24

thanks boom snow and howlong I can't stop worrying so your posts are helping as i read and re read them just had a lovely walk only to find pants brown again, it's so horrid, I long for nice yellow discharge and to get a bit further along but have to try and enjoy the moment.. but am finding it hard.

Yes this happened to me too, I broke down in the toilet the first time it happened as I thought that's it then, it's all over, but everything was fine and my 5 month old is busy dribbling on my arm as I type this one handed :)

Liveinthepresent · 25/02/2012 18:32

I had two spells of this - terrified me first time as had no idea how common it is - the second time it went on for a couple of weeks - and I can relate to how you feel - every time I went to the loo I was hoping there would be no more.
Anyway the MWs said to go and get checked anytime I was worried - but they were totally unconcerned, gave no speculation about cause - and I had a very healthy pregnancy and now have a gorgeous DD.
Try to think positive - I wish I hadn't worried so much!

Loonybun · 25/02/2012 18:38

I ended up in the delivery suite with this last weekend. I am 24 weeks. They said the fact we had had sex earlier that day probably started it off (sorry tmi!) but after a lot of internals and poking and prodding they said the cervix wasn't dilated and that spotting at this stage isn't much to worry about as it can be caused by the baby changing position or even an old graze that gets knocked on the cervix.. They did say if it changed to bright red blood or there was lots of it to get it checked out again.

I had the same thing happen at about the same time with dd now aged 8 and there were no further issues with the pregnancy.

lostlenore · 25/02/2012 19:10

I had about an eggcup of red blood loss at 17 weeks, scared the bejeezus out of me. If your cervix is closed that is a really good sign and brown blood is old blood so try not to worry too much, could just be one of those things. Bubs moving around is also reassuring and if the worst were to happen and you delivered now the baby is considered viable at 24 weeks so would stand a really good chance.

BelleStar · 25/02/2012 21:51

Hey,
I had spotting and pinkish bleeding on and off my whole pregnancy (first at 6 weeks, then fairly regularly from 28 weeks til the end). I went to see my GP or midwife each episode (although I knew as time went on that it was always nothing I didn't want the one time I didn't get it checked out to be the one time it was something). And I, like you, was terrified and being told that everything was fine, just "one of those things", was good to hear but I didn't like not knowing why it was happening. Anyway, DD is now 5 months old and fast asleep (for the moment!) upstairs!
HTH xx

TartyMcFarty · 25/02/2012 21:56

Me, up to about 30 weeks. I had a couple of extra scans but there was never any evidence that the bleed was linked to the baby. I've had a cervical abrasion in the past so it could've been that.

surfmama · 25/02/2012 22:02

oh mums i love you all. seriously it is really helping me and i am feeling much much happier at the mo. funny (not) how common it is then, i did believe my mw but i think i will always have a little panic but now i can read and reread this thread and calm myself down. it is lovely to hear about your happy babies and mine is have a good wiggle around tonight and says hi xxx

EmmaCate · 25/02/2012 22:27

Yep. First of mine was probably implantation bleeding; very pale pink with a bit of brown. Second was sub-chorionic haemorrhage away from foetal sac. DS and DD both term+6 with no issues.

From what I read, miscarriage usually brighter red and heavy. Hugs to anyone who's had to go through that and I sincerely hope you won't. It doesn't sound like it though.

Tell your doc tho; they can arrange early scan to be sure.

Boomerwang · 26/02/2012 02:16

When you MC doesn't it also hurt, like bad period cramps?

Alibobster · 26/02/2012 16:41

Surfmama hope you're feeling better today. I had brown spotting for a couple of days last week but because of past mc's I had a scan on Thursday which should everything was great. Out for dinner with dh last night, went to toilet and there was some pink discharge with a tiny bit (1 dot) of red in it. I was so scared I nearly threw up. Came home and broke my heart crying convinced it was all ending again. Woke up this morning though and there was no more pink, just brown. I am hoping and praying that this wee one makes it but I am absolutely terrified. Tomorrow cannot come quickly enough so I can phone the EPU

surfmama · 26/02/2012 18:30

hi mums it is so reassuring to read your stories so much so that i have had a lovely yellow discharge day today and am just enjoying the moment, i even went out on my bike, quite cautiously i hasten to add. Not sure about this, but i did tell the homeopath that i see and he told me a good constitutional remedy should stop the bleeding, so i have taken the remedy and last one tomorrow so will report if it comes back... quite a test isn't it. Alibob I am with you on this, so take a deep breath and have a very big hug from me. It is overwhelming the complete fear that takes over me so if this happens to you as it sounds like it does, I am so sorry for you. Remember brown is old and from what we can read above quite 'okay' for many, so I will be thinking of you, how many weeks are you? Can you call the maternity ward for reassurance?

TinyPants · 26/02/2012 18:35

Surfmama I am so , so sorry, been feeling so rubbish haven't been on mumsnet. Should have given you an update. Had a bit more brown spotting on Sunday but nothing major. Phoned the EPU on Monday morning and they were fantastic, told me to go straight up to see them. MW did a scan and everything was fine, measured at 7 weeks 3 days which is spot on with my dates. She then checked my cervix, she said sometimes this can be grazed and cause bleeding, she described it like having a skint knee! That was exactly what the problem was, a grazed cervix! The fact there was a reason for the bleeding made me feel so much better. I can't believe that on Saturday night I thought it was all over, such a horrible devastating feeling. I've still a long way to go but at least for the time being it's going the right way. How are things with you? x

surfmama · 01/03/2012 09:08

Hi Alibob it is complete devastation isn't it. I am so pleased that all is well with you and thanks for letting me know, I had things crossed for you. I had a really good nights sleep last night, no crazy palpitations, weird dreams, odd pains, just ear and hip and I can definately put up with those! Haven't had any more spotting since last week, sigh of relief, and am working on convincing myself I will go to term and not come early (which was my worry with the spots) but I do take some convincing! Have my 25 week appnt today, a little early as not 25 till sunday. Hope your scan comes around quickly for you, it's very exciting....take it easy
