Back pain and manic baby. Seriously I am not managing this very well at all.

I have trapped a nerve in my back, it hurts like a bitch, it's made me vomit with the pain, barely slept last night. And to top it off, I had a midwife appointment last night and a student midwife palpated my bump, which I have no issue with. Except since then, my baby has literally been going non stop, and stepped it's movements up about 3 gears. I'm tired, grumpy, worried the baby has become distressed since last night, paranoid and in pain.

Please someone soothe or slap me Sad

I should add that my midwife has done a referral for antenatal obstetrics, but god knows how long that will take or even if they can help me.

I didn't want to read and not answer, as I'm no expert in this things at all (my pregnancies were easy).

I think if I were in your shoes, I'd ring the midwives cell phone and leave a message to be rung back. You're in discomfort which, while pregnancy isn't always a walk in the park, if it's making you vomit isn't good. A referral to a physio or a masseur who knows what they are doing may help, but the midwives will be able to advise. And if your little one is now doing gymnastics but wasn't before, it would be good to get an opinion on that too. You don't say how pregnant you are, but I'd call tonight - someone will be on call and that's what the number is for.

I hate to keep moaning/asking about stuff, but it really has been one sodding thing after another since I fell pregnant. I'm 21 weeks now, and baby is still on hyper mode, although I was soooo tired last night I think I've at least got a bit of decent sleep. Baby's still going for it this morning, so I'm wondering if I should monitor it a bit more today then call my midwife.

Ring the midwife. You need to get ANY change in baby's movements checked out. Call her now.

Baby's been more settled during the day, and thankfully it's back in a normal pattern again. I did call my midwife, and she says that it may well have been the palpating which stirred baby up, but as long as everything seems better now then there should be no problem. Hopefully she'll be more aware for my next visit Confused

I'm glad things settled down. And it's great that you phoned your midwife and talked - you need to have confidence that they will be there throughout your pregnancy.

Did you get anywhere with the back pain ? If it looks like the referral may take a while, have you thought about talking to your GP ? Yes, you're only pregnant for 40+ weeks, but there's no need to spend it feeling uncomfortable. I found an ex-midwife who had retrained as in massage therapy who made me more comfortable towards the end...

The back pain made me physically ill on Friday night, it was unbearable. So much so that my poor mother thought I'd gone in to early labour Confused We were in Mothercare today and she found a lower back support, which I've been wearing for most of the afternoon. It's really helped lift my bump up. and the velcro is really supportive around my back. If I'd known it would work I'd have got two Hmm

Hopefully the referral won't be that long, my midwife was making sure to say the pain was making mobility difficult. Fingers crossed!

You poor thing ! There are a lot of "bump support" things out there - I'd have a look on ebay as they are the sorts of things that are useful but you don't really keep them after you deliver... I hope you get that appointment soon

Thanks didi, it's been a right pain this afternoon, literally.

The problem with my job is I spend 3/4 of the day running around after a toddler, or cooking/housework. So not enough time for resting my back Hmm
