Reliability of gender scans at 16+2 weeks

Hi all

i am currently 16+3 with identical twins, my mum booked a private gender scan with Babybond yesterday and all.was well.

The sonographer spent a long time on the sexing,my mum asked if she knew what they were and she replied yes but wanted to get a clear picture to show us, the babies were well behaved and didn't obstruct the picture at all, legs open wide!!! the first one wasn't overly clear but she confirmed a girl and pointed out the 3 lines, the second was much clearer and had no signs of anything between the legs and 3 very clear white lines. my mum asked her if she was 100% sure to which she replied i don't do % its either a boy or girl and they are girls, i said no sign of winks then, and she commented that its not that winks arent visable more what is there. she gave us lots of photos in a pink bag :) she also mentioned that where she is not sure she gets you back know for a rescan. she did us a number of 4d pics as they were laying so close to each other, at one point whilst viewing in 4d we had a full frontal of one of the twins and there was no sign of a winky !

i have wasted spent alot of time today on Google!! and it seems they can be wrong but more so when the babies are obstructing the scan or not playing the game, im absolutely delighted at the thought of girls as we have 2 ds already, so really i just wondered if i can be confident with the scan?

thanks x

I would say that you should be very confident! Babybond wouldn't offer gender scans at a point where they couldn't be very confident about their results otherwise they would be dealing with a lot of people who wanted their money back!
Sometimes sonographers do get it wrong but as you say, it's more likely at the NHS scan where they haven't got time for you to come back later if the baby is not playing the game. Also if they have seen definite girl parts, that is even more reassuring than just deciding it is girls due to not finding a penis which might have been hiding.

Identical twin girls sounds absolutely adorable!

goingmadtrying · 22/02/2012 19:06

thanks kit&kat i do hope so, and i agree definitely adorable :)

I had a gender scan at babybond at about 16 weeks... they said girl and showed me the three white lines, and she is now a 16 month old girl.

They didn't say about being absolutely sure though, they just said the testing is generally something like 99% accurate.

Don't google! I found about a million cases of 'They got it wrong!' so worried the entire pregnancy that I would have to dress a blue baby in pink everything!! :)

goingmadtrying · 23/02/2012 06:17

thanks curious im hoping there werent wrong and she seemed very confident in her decision, i know logically Google shows the times it went wrong, its not like you would create a post saying "i had a gender scan and when the baby was born it was right!!!!" lol thanks for the reality check, i think im going to enjoy joining team pink something im so so excited about Grin

Congratulations on your girls Goingmad :)... I can't help but was interested as im having my gender scan at Baby bond on sunday and will be 16+1.. I have been driving myself insane thinking I should wait a couple more weeks but they wouldn't say from 16 weeks if it was going to be a case of guess work.

Enjoy your pink shopping! It's great fun :)

goingmadtrying · 23/02/2012 07:11

hi vinolover congratulations on your pregnancy :) like i said in my op she advised they invite you back if they can't be sure or don't get a clear enough pic, especially as that's what you pay for, they spent a long time looking at the sexing for me and wanted to get a clear pic. good luck for Sunday is there a sex you would like :)

I had my twins gendered at 15 weeks on a regular NHS scan and it was completely accurate! Don't worry!

goingmadtrying · 23/02/2012 07:32

Thank you Goingmad. I already have a DS and a DD so im really not too fussed. Im convinced this is a boy as is everyone else around me but the pregnancy itself is identical to my pregnancy with my DD! Having said that, I will be stunned if it turns out to be a girl! I just want to shop Wink

harrygracejessica · 23/02/2012 13:04

Baby bond were correct on both sets of my twins. First lot girls and 2nd lot boys :-)

Both times was 16 weeks.

PoppyS34 · 23/02/2012 14:01

Congrats goingmad that's lovely news.. :)

Umm, What do the babies look like in 4d at 16wks?

I'm really tempted to find out gender early, but the idea of 3d and 4d scans worry me, for some weird reason..!

I wouldn't know what to expect the baby to look like? Blush :)

goingmadtrying · 23/02/2012 16:07

hi poppy I've loaded my pics if you would like to see, they are all skin and bones!!! Shock

All I can say is, this baby is not shy in the least.... He was more than happy to keep flashing his bits at us Grin. It was an absolutely amazing scan and because they kept us waiting 45mins (they had to write up a special report for the lady before me), they gave us some 4d prints of him too.

Thank you for thinking of me :). Hope you're enjoying your pink buying! X

goingmadtrying · 28/02/2012 08:29

lol Grin boys never are shy are they!!!!
your feeling was right then :)

im seeing the consultant today so important hoping she confirms the same, then its full on pink shopping all the way!!!!

good luck for the rest of your pregnancy :)

OP posts:
goingmadtrying · 28/02/2012 08:30

not important should say im hoping she confirms the same!!! bloody predictive text

OP posts:
Vinolover · 28/02/2012 09:55

I hope it goes well! Im sure she will confirm it for you :) They are very good at baby bond and this little fella was very obviously a boy but it was only after she checked twice and I said it's a boy that she confirmed it for me. I have a nice potty shot of him for when he's older Wink.

Good luck to you too! X

goingmadtrying · 28/02/2012 13:46

grrrr consultant is still saying too early to tell and i will have it confirmed at my detailed scan in 2 weeks!!! she was trying to take a leg measurement and had a good although not clear between one of the twins legs and i didn't see any boy bits! lol i don't think babybond were wrong just wish i had it confirmed by nhs!! i do wonder if its the hospital policy not to say before the detailed scan. oh well will.need to wait and see :)
