Does having a small bump really mean I'll have a tiny baby?!

Bit trivial I know, but everyone keeps telling me my baby will be 'a small one' and it'll be 'easy to get out' because my bump is tiny! Obviously I want to have a nice, plump average sized baby and find it a bit upsetting when I hear it a zillion times a day. I'm never usually this sensitive. I may be crazy for wanting a chubster, but anyone got any 'I was small and had a quite large baby thank you' story?

I didn't even have a bump at 24 weeks. I was a bridesmaid at my friends wedding and fitted in the dress i was measured for pre-pregnancy. I grew really quickly from 28 weeks and had a 8lb 4oz DD.

i had small bumps and big babies, the biggest was 10lb 13oz, i always measured slightly small for dates etc, but all mine were large babies. i am 5 2 and fairly petite when not pregnant. i seemed to just 'hide' them well!

I too had and went gradually insane with all the small bump comments. Fundal height always measured bang on the week I was though. I don't think I looked pregnant until at least my final trimester.

DS was 7lbs 7ozs and I was in pre-pregnancy clothes the next day. Not too smug, just very lucky :)

Well I was huge everywhere with my dd and it was a 24 hour hard labour and she was 6lb11oz
people are saying my bump is huge (are you having twins? No! You sure?!)this time although it is smaller to me and overall iv gained less weight than last time im being mobitored due to the baby measuring small at the scans but my actual bump measures spot on?!
Very intrested to now the size of this baby!! Xx

Nah, you probably just have good core stomach muscles.

ToxicToria · 22/02/2012 23:23

Nope I had a tiny bump and my baby was 7lb 15oz, as long as your midwife is happy don't worry

sunnyday123 · 22/02/2012 23:31

Dont worry! most people i knew who had big bumps early on did so because they over ate! I hid my pregnancy from work til 26 weeks in normal clothes- most of my friends got to 20 weeks plus without showing as the baby isn't that big at that stage. I was actually on holiday in a bikini at 22 wks with my first and she was 8lb!

With dd2 i had to have regular scans as they said my bump wasnt growing between weeks - she was 7lb 3oz! Both on due date.

littlemissnormal · 23/02/2012 08:26

How did/are you all measuring for the fundal height thing?
With both previous DCs I was bang on for the number of weeks. DD was 7lbs 11 then DS was 9lbs 11. Am currently 28 weeks but measuring 30, worried its going to be a right porker!

My bump was massive with DS. Turns out it was mostly water and he was a small baby :)

The3Bears · 23/02/2012 09:45

No my bump was tiny with ds and midwife constantly told me to make sure I had the tiny baby size baby gros etc as he would be about 5-6 lbs. even when I went into labour all the midwifes at delivery were saying how small baby was going to be Grin when he was born he was 7lb 6oz so only slightly smaller than average size really Shock

jaffacakehips · 23/02/2012 09:57

I get told the whole way through my pregnancy..gosh aren't you small, blaa blaa blaa!

DD was 9lb 13oz {eyes watering}

TimothyClaypoleLover · 23/02/2012 13:49

I had a small bump with DD1 and was told by midwife I was measuring too small. Saw the consultant who then told me it was perfectly normal and the midwife was wrong! DD was 5 lb 12 oz so fairly small by today's standards but not tiny.

My bump this time round is still smallish but definitely bigger than first time. There are various factors at play such as how fit you are, how much you eat during pregnancy, the amount of fluid you have on board. Are that if you have good stomach muscles you won't pop out as much.

lou1403 · 24/02/2012 12:33

I've been referred to hospital for growth scans twice as my bump keeps measuring small. The first time was at 32 weeks and I was measuring at about 28/29, the second time I was 37 weeks and only measured 32/33 weeks. Both times the scan was completely fine and the baby was in the 70th centile. At 37 weeks the baby is measuring 38+6. I'm hoping its just tall and skinny...
