I didn't wear proper maternity clothes until about 6 months, just bought a few items one size up, also I thought I'd be sick of being restricted to maternity wear if I got in it too early.

Loonybun · 22/02/2012 14:16

Hmmm with my first I think I was about 14 weeks (!) but with this one it was more or less from 7 wks! Crazy I know! I've been huge ever since and now I'm nearing 24 weeks I've got people asking when it's due to pop all the time! (Baby is normal sized, it's just me - I was a size 10 before and I've got no where to hide my bump!)

Haribojoe · 22/02/2012 14:20

With DS1 not till about 20 weeks but had got earlier and earlier with each pregnancy.

This time (DC4) despite losing weight from morning sickness was in bigger/maternity trousers from about 8 weeks Blush

WhenDoISleep · 22/02/2012 14:21

DS1 - it was 18/19 weeks (for mat trousers). I swapped to maternity tops a little later, but the tops I tended to wear were generally a little looser or empire line so accomadated the growing bump quite well.

DS2 (currently 31+1) - swapped to maternity trousers at 26 weeks. I am still wearing all my usual tops - again the styles accomadate the bump fine.

1st at about 6 months, 2nd (this one..) about 14 weeks, otherwise my clothes cut my bump in half and made it look like 2 little boys fighting under a blanket Grin

JambalayaCodfishPie · 22/02/2012 14:22

I'm 7 months and have so far only needed to change one pair of trousers for maternity, everything else is just my regular stuff.

I have bought some maternity stuff but it's still too big, I'm keeping the tags on it so if I don't need it, I can sell it! Grin

ScaredyCate · 22/02/2012 14:41

About 18 weeks with my first, about 11 weeks with my second Blush

SomedayIllFlyAway · 22/02/2012 14:45

I bloated that much with my last pregnancy, I had gone up two dress sizes by the time I was 7 weeks; so relented and bought mat jeans for comfort as they fitted my bum and my bloated tummy. (I went onto MC at 11 weeks and lost all the bloat / weight within 10 days or so).

I am now pregnant again, and am only 5+2, I am very bloated again, gone up a dress size, and whilst I haven't yet put my mat jeans on, my normal jeans are digging in my tummy a lot.

molly3478 · 22/02/2012 14:46

Im 35 weeks and havent got any and didnt all last pregnancy. I just wear my normal stuff as maternity stuf is a rip off.

HappyAsEyeAm · 22/02/2012 16:03

I bloated loads at aroubnd 6 weeks, and everything I owned was too small and cut into me. So I wore maternity jeans then, and stuff that i had in a bigger size from when I was fatter. The bloating went down at about 10 weeks and I had more of a baby bump then which obviously just grew and grew. So your friend could well be needing maternity stuff at 8 weeks!

hippopo · 22/02/2012 16:40

About 16 weeks with ds1, maternity jeans first but could wear normal tops until approx 25 weeks or more.

With second pregnancy (currently 38 weeks) started wearing at 10 weeks!

I dont think maternity clothes are a rip off at all if you know where to shop and everything goes together and dont needto buy too many seasons worth of clothes. I also think it is important to feel comfortable and good about yourself. All the stuff I bought around 12 weeks I am still wearing now and am quite proud of my capsule wardrobe - never had one before!

MegIet · 22/02/2012 16:46

About 10 weeks both times. I was teeny-tiny skinny before I had my first DC and still fairly slim when I got pg with my second.

Normal work trousers / jeans were uncomfortable once my stomach podged up, I was much happier in stretchy things.

After 2 pregnancies I had loads of maternity clothes (t-shirts, jeans, combats, bras, work clothes), all the good stuff was e-bayed and I still wear the track-pants & leggings around the house.

LadyWord · 22/02/2012 16:47

About 10 weeks the first time; 6 weeks (!) the second. I always had a bump much bigger than average for dates, and felt sick and bloated early on, and normal trouser waistbands would make me feel ill.

twizzlestix · 22/02/2012 16:52

I'm 13 weeks and my normal clothes are ok at the moment but tights are killing me! They press in all the wrong places so I'll be on the lookout for maternity tights ASAP as I live in dresses and skirts!

cerys74 · 22/02/2012 16:55

Maternity jeans at 20 weeks 1st time round and 16 weeks 2nd time... tops were generally just a size bigger or in a baggy style. I only really had to wear maternity tops in the last 2 months or so - they're like tents!!

mildertduck · 23/02/2012 13:21

I'm 29+2 and I'm not wearing any maternity clothes today - my jeans fit under my bump and I'm wearing a long floaty-ish empire top I bought just before I got pregnant. Plenty of room in that; not so sure about the jeans.

I had to buy smart maternity trousers at about 20 weeks. I've got a few maternity tops; most of my normal clothes are still fine but they're too short in the body :(

ProlificYoungGentlemenBreeder · 23/02/2012 13:45

By 12 weeks. I had such a bloat and my boobs suddenly were huge too.
I was so uncomforp

ballroompink · 23/02/2012 14:48

I stopped fitting into the majority of my 'bottoms' at around 20 weeks, some of my more tight, waist-enhancing skirts/dresses by about 16 weeks. Now 28 weeks and have only got a few maternity bits, still wearing my usual tops (stretchy/loose ones only obvs) and have tended to buy stretchy non-maternity bottoms a size bigger than usual. However I don't really own any casual maternity stuff yet so imagine I will have to get some in the next few weeks.
