When did you actually have your '12 weeks' scan?

I ask because I've heard such variants from 8 - 16 weeks!
I'm having mine next week when I will be 11+2 so pretty close to the '12 weeks' mark.
Though do you know when the 'best' time to have it is meant to be?
For example, my doctor said they try to do it slightly earlier these days (ie. between 8-10 weeks) to ensure there is enough of a gap between this scan and the 20 weeks one. On the other hand, I've read that to do some of the checks that the 12 week scan is intended for (ie. Downs Syndrome), week 13 is the best.

So I just wondered at what stage did you have yours; could they do all the checks they wanted to; and when is the best time to have it?

Thanks!

well if they're doing the OSCAR test (combined test for Downs) I think the gap is 11wks till 13+6. However, not sure that all PCTs do it as routine

I had OSCAR so I had my first at 13w and my second at 11+6

I had my first '12 week scan' when I thought I was 11+5 but it turns out that I was actually only 11 weeks so my baby was too small to do the measurements that were needed for the nuchal fold. I went back when I was 12+5 and that was fine. My hospital told me that they like to book the scan appointments for 12 weeks plus just incase your dates are a little out then the baby will hopefully still be big enough for the tests to be done. The nuchal tests can be done between 11+3 and 13+6.

I thought i was 12 weeks exactly going from my last period but i was actually 13+1, they couldn't do the nuchal anyway becuase she wouldn't stay still she's a little tinker, i had it done by bloods at 16 weeks which is just as accurate i was told!

33 weeks now and counting the days x

I think mine was 10+4 but it was only so early because they went off the date of my last period and my cycle tends to be pretty long. I tried to tell them the dates that I thought were right but they wouldn't listen. If they had listened and scheduled it for the 10 days later I thought it should have been then it would have been exactly 12 weeks.

Mine was dead on 12 weeks this time, but 20 week scan is 19.6days

mildertduck · 22/02/2012 13:16

I was 12+0 for the dating scan and 20+6 for the anatomy scan.

I had my first scan at 10 weeks (i thought I was 12wks) then back again at 12 weeks.

Thanks for all your replies!

I've only started thinking about it because my original date for my scan was for when I would be 12+3 but it has been brought forward for when I'll be 11+2 (I think!).
They have already said if they cant do the tests they want to, I could always go back for another test a bit later, especially if I have my dates wrong and I'm actually less than 11 weeks.

Im actually quite excited that it has been brought forward as obviously I dont have to wait as long to see my bundle of joy Smile and it seems that I could always have another scan if need be.

Mine is on Tuesday, I will be 13 weeks.

I was 13+2 for my first scan. I was living two days away from the nearest hospital with a scanner at the time, so it was better that it was closer to the 13+6 deadline for the nuchal test rather than the baby being too small to test.

I had the second one at 22 weeks - this was quite late I think, due to moving house just before Christmas and changing hospitals etc.
