Cramp in legs!

I'm 27 weeks and everything has been fine until the leg cramp at night started. It's almost every night now, always in the calves and is extremely painful. I have to get up and walk around to relieve it...
Any ideas why this is happening and what I should be doing to reduce it?
Would be nice to get more sleep ;-)

I had those. But luckily they passed after the second trimester. I found that the more caffeine I drank the worse they were. The worst was after a night entertaining and having to drink too much tea and coke (the liquid kind!) to 'prove' how good I was being to the in-laws! I heard that exercising the legs helps. Mid-cramp trying to relax the muscle and not walking on it I think helped. You have my sympathies 'cos it is bloody painful.

get yourself some magnesium from a health food store and take some an hour before you go to bed.
also keeping legs warm and wearing flight socks help to reduce cramps.

I'll second the magnesium. Have been taking magnesium tablets since xmas for another reason, but haven't had leg cramps since then.

I'm 34 weeks and am the same. Last night I had cramp in both hips then in right calf. My calf is still aching. Im shattered today from the combination of leg cramps and going for a wee every few hours during the night!

I was much worse when pregnant with ds1. I found sleeping on an extra duvet and sleeping with a pillow between my knees helped. Also sleeping propped up on extra pillows so I'm not laying flat.

I think i might mention the magnesium supplements to midwife when I see her on Monday.

eat a banana before bed :) (honest!)
