Painful cramps in and period pains

I am 25 and have just found out that I am 5 weeks pregnant (first timer). I am extremely worried as for the past two nights I have had very painful cramp in my lower stomach and then during the day dull aching period pains, I woke up three times last night with the pain as it was so bad and felt like I had to breath myself through it. I have booked an appointment with my doctor for today but just wondered whether any one else has experienced this. Feels like I have gone from shock on finding out to just worry, can't wait to get to 12 weeks when the worrying can ease!

I had this and all was fine. You can phone your early pregnancy unit and get an early scan to make sure though. Google 'early pregnancy unit' and you'll get a number. This is what the doctor told me to do, so might save you some time. Hope all is well.

I had this too (though not quite as bad, it sounds) - GP said it was normal for this stage of pregnancy.

Sad I had this from 4-6 1/2 weeks it was absolute agony I feel for you! I had 2 early scans because of it which both showed the pregnancy progressing. I also had a horrible doctor who told me I was more than likely having a miscarriage as I have cysts on my overies. Unfortunately I hadn't discovered this forum so didn't no it seemed to be a pretty normal thing so spent a few weeks waiting for a bleed stressing myself out! I'm now 30 + 3 weeks and everything is fine!
Please don't worry I'm sure you will be fine as well. I found eating tiny things even half a biscuit helped briefly. Apart from that i think it's a case of just crying and putting up with it until the phase passes xx

Thanks for the comments girlies, just been to see the doc and he told me it is either normal stretching pains, a urine infection or (but unlikely) early signs of miscarriage and he told me to try not to worry and take it easy.
I have found that eating takes the edge off, also going for a wee helps too, going to stay optimisitc and just sit tight - its so hard not to worry though! I supposed it dosent get any easier when baby actually arrives then starts the lifetime of worry over them! Im sure all will be worth it though. xx
