hi ladies so on top of hip pain and needing a wee at night I now have a cold and have to sleep propped up and wake up every half hour for a drink as I am so dry... blurgh. does anyone know the science behind what happens to baby when we get ill, are they protected? what stops them from getting the germs? and any tips for speedy recovery? I was going to pile into the raw garlic, but have a meeting tomorrow, what do you think?!!!

Feel for you I'm the same dd1&2 have had colds and I've had it for over a week now and can't shift it :(
Yuck wouldn't do garlic if u have a meeting. I wouldn't do it altogether as can't stand it atm lol.

Hope you are feeling better soon x

Tough for you but baby will be completely fine, whereas you have to suffer without being able to dose up on lemsip and the like.

he he danie i have done it. just cut it up into small chunks and had it after my toast. horrible but worth a try, am hoping it might 'get' me to the meeting instead of being in my bed, and will have to deal with the consequences of a breath attack tomorrow.... hope you feel better too. going to try a face steam over bowl later too, what a delight!

Steaming is good - can remember doing it lots of times a day when pg with a cold.
Also Boots do a cold and flu remedy which is just paracetamol and vit c - obv not as effective as a drug ridden lemsip but is comforting. (usual MNHQ disclaimers apply)
Feel better soon.

I've just tried the steaming - filled the bathroom up with steam and sat in there with DS, who has a worse cold than me and a painful cough.
I think it worked, though was distracted by child acting as if I'd brought him into the 7th circle of hell Sad

I have had the cold for over 2 weeks and on wednesday it got so bad i had to go to the docs. Turned out I have a sinus infection and needed an anti botic.
Really hate havin the cold when pregnant if i wasnt i would take sudafed and that would clear ya up in 3 days.
I wouuld try steaming as a few have said and also halls sweets the really strong ones they helped clear my nose Hmm

I do the garlic when I have a cold - it's truly revolting, I crush 2 cloves, wrap them in bread and get them down as fast as possible. Then I run around the kitchen hollering as it's so vile. But - you can feel it burning away and there is evidence out there that it has antibacterial properties. Usually by the morning the bad breath is gone, you can always chew some gum if needed.
