Hi All,

I'm DPO 11 and have had BFP since yesterday. For the past few days I've had terrible lower backache (very unusual for me) and today I've had mild cramps in my lower abdomen. It's this that I'm worried about, nowhere near as strong as AF cramps, but definitely there.

AF isn't due til next week (I OV a week earlier than average which is why I'm DPO 11).

So are these feelings usual in early pregnancy? As you've probably guessed its my first ever time and I'm quite worried (which I know isn't helpful).

Any advice (good or bad news) would be very gratefully received

Sastra

They could be implantation pains - I certainly got them when I was newly pregnant and they are caused by the egg implanting into the womb.

Hi Sastra, congratulations! Grin

There is a LOT of cramping/stretching strange pains in early pregnancy it really is very worrying.

It is all very normal. There's no point me telling you not to worry because we have all been 'knicker checkers' in early pregnancy.

The only thing I can say is that try and think of the job your uterus is preparing itself for, and you can only take each day as it comes if you do have any other symptoms ie spotting then seek advise.

I am exp DC4, and it still surprises me the length of time the cramps go on for and how strong they can be!

No one can predict the worst case scenario, of which we have absolutely no control. I had a MC before this pregnancy and had no early cramping as previously with my successful pregnancies , just woke up one morning knew something had changed (I just didn't feel pregnant) went to the toilet with mild diarrhea type feeling and discovered I was bleeding. The pain and cramping came later during the loss. There were other indications from my BFP, but again this is only MY exp and I know a lot of women who had different outcomes in similar circumstances.

Just trying to give you my exp from both sides, in the hope that you balance out the worry/anxiety with the excitement of growing your little bean! Grin

They do sound like implantation cramps, there might be a small amount of bleeding as well when the egg implants. I don't know if I had implantation cramps because I wasn't expecting to be pregnant, I hadn't had a period the month before and although we were trying didn't believe I was even ovulating. I did have mild period like cramps for the first 10 weeks or so

"Kicker Checker" - oh my goodness thank god - I honestly thought that was just me! Thanks do much for your thoughtful and kind replies, I really appreciate it.

It's all very normal. I did in fact have some dark bleeding and discharge as well as the backache and cramps. It lasted a week or so and was described as my body thinking it should be having a period but the HCG hormone getting in the way. Another theory is implantation.

This early on noone can predict the outcome but be reassured this is normal and that most pregnancies go to term and produce healthy babies. I am now 26weeks.
