Brownish discharge at 5-6 weeks

Hi ladies,

Have been having quite a lot of discharge mixed with brown blood over the last day or two. Saw doctor yesterday in complete panic and was sent to early pregnancy unit. Had a scan which they said showed I was between 5 and 6 weeks pregnant, and at the moment they can only see the sac.

I have to go back in two weeks for another scan, and in the meantime it's basically neither good nor bad news - they just don't know.

This is my second pregnancy - I have a 14mo DS. No bleeding, spotting or funny-coloured discharge at all last time.

Any thoughts please? Or similar experiences?

Implantation bleed? Very common, I think. I had a lot of discharge at the beginning with ds2.

Good luck.

Hi
I am about 5 weeks Pregnant and this is my fourth pregnancy and so far bleeding browny blood for 11 days now. (did happpen in last pregnancys but only for a couple of days) Had scan yesterday at EPU as also suffering cramps and they only saw the sac, no embryo. I to have to go back in two weeks for another scan.
You cant help worrying though but the nurse advised that the amout of blood isnt really a big issue it's if you are in a lot a pain thats a cause for concern.
Keep my fingers crossed for you, hope your next scan goes well :)

Thank you both. I am trying not to worry, and they did say brown discharge was reasonably common. So difficult though, and I dread going to the bathroom in case I find something worse.

kimmycooper - Best wishes to you too with your pregnancy.

Hi

Just posted on a similar thread - in fact there are lots of threads about bleeding at the moment which just shows how common it is!

I had a mucousy discharge for a few days at around 5 weeks streaked with a little pink/brown, then one day at work at around 6 wks I went to the loo and there was lots of brown discharge on the tissue. I was beside myself. Went to the doc straight away who wasnt terribly optimistic but arranged blood tests 2 days apart to check hcg levels were doubling. By the time I got home I was spotting red blood enough to need a pad - thought it was all over.
Anyway next morning bleeding had stopped and just had brown discharge still. rang EPU who said bleeding around 6 wks is very common - can be due to implantation. Discharge continued for next wk. I had a scan at 7 wks which showed fetus & heartbeat. Was so relieved. My hospital won't generally scan before 8 wks as they can be so inconclusive.
I bled again - bright red blood at 11 weeks and 22 weeks. Currently 28 weeks and touch wood all is well. A cause for the bleeding hasn't been found despite scans and internal exams to check my cervix (yuk!) Apparently some of us just bleed as horrible as it is.
Hope this reassures you that often things are fine - especially as you don't mention any other symptoms of a m/c - cramps, clots, heavy bleeding etc.

Hope it all works out for you
x

I must admit Im getting a bit obsesed with it all now. Keep going to the loo to check all the time! Today (sunday) still bleeding although not as much but have got back ache. Im hoping this is from having a bad nights sleep!! Do you have any other pregnancy symptoms? I have no sore boobs or sickness :~ sometimes hope I do so at least I'll feel pregnant!!
cocopopsaddict Let us know how your scan went. Mine is two weeks Monday.
