Hey lovely pregnant ladies

You are so busy on here, I feel left out!

Morning sickness loads better today, only felt a wee bit queasy. Also I seem to have more energy than last week - I think I read somewhere that the tiredness is worst between weeks 4-8, so there is light at the end of the tunnel! I managed all my patients fine and finished in really good time for once and when I got home I had enough energy to walk to the swimming pool & swim a mile, quite pleased with myself! They had the 50m pool open so that was lovely... much more relaxing than doing 25m lengths. Some "real" (i.e. competitive) swimmers turned up halfway (buffed, hairless, tanned) and did very demoralisingly speedy front crawl, I tried to ignore them :)

Boyfriend is playing football tonight so I am having a lazy night to myself - no studying no journals. Made myself some pancakes with mushrooms and tomatoes for dinner and pancakes with bananas for dessert, yum! Am I the only pregnant girl who only craves fruit, vegetables and yoghurt? Not that I'm complaining... I never liked junk food or anything sweet at the best of times (I ate a lot of weird food though! elaborate veggie dishes, loads of fish (usually raw), squid of course, cooked japanese/indian/thai/spanish/vietnamese food on a regular basis, I'm a great cook), but now the thought of anything with sugar in is beyond disgusting and I just want to eat very plain vegetables! I know I am very lucky I've managed to eat reasonably well when so many others are vomiting, I haven't put on or lost any weight, which is great.

BLATHERING again! Let me catch up with you all....

squidkid · 21/02/2012 19:13

missbone - did you start the puzzle? I spent most of a summer doing a huge Tintin one once, it's now framed on my wall and my favourite thing ever, really. Also I love that you still have a christmas tree up, I think mine didn't come down till April one year... bought a real one last couple of years so if you don't take them down they are just skeletons by February!

bettybat those pancakes sound gorgeous! I just made myself some out of leftover scraps in the fridge :) How do you make flourless pancakes, what do they have in them? Aren't they just omelettes?

Sassee we never spoke before but I'm very sorry to hear you're having a hard time. Much love and thinking of you.

I am sorry to hear about everyone's variable experiences with early pregnancy units... sounds like a bit of a lottery. Whether or not it's in their guidelines to do scans at whatever stage or for whatever presentation - there is no need EVER to be rude or dismissive to a woman who believes she is miscarrying - small bit of empathy goes a long way - that sort of thing makes me angry.

RunningOutOfIdeas · 21/02/2012 19:21

I went to book my MW appointment this evening. The receptionist told me that the first appointment now is only after 10 weeks. This is different to my last pregnancy when I had an appointment at about 8 weeks. Not seeing anyone until 10 weeks does seem a short time to then get a scan booked for around 12 weeks.

missbone · 21/02/2012 19:25

Running, I'll be 9+4 when I go to my booking-in appointment. Biz, isn't it?

8abyDust · 21/02/2012 19:31

Evening All,

I don't manage to check this when I'm at work and when I come back on I have missed like 4 pages of chat, think I have caught up though!

Welcome to all the newbies and hello to all the oldies Wink!!

I am officially knackered so just checking in, feel like I am going to drop off any minute. Went out for an early dinner to frankie and bennys with my friend after work and ate way too much but it was so yummy and should stop me from feeling sick!! Time for pjs, hot choc and the brits in bed I think.

Love to all especially those going through hard times.

8abyDust · 21/02/2012 19:33

Oo there was one question I want to ask...how did people get their appointments for their 12 week scans, was it through the post from the hospital?

And I keep forgetting to put my stats at the bottom...........

26 years old 7+3 #1

missbone · 21/02/2012 19:35

Squidkid & BabyDust, I'm sorry you missed the party today...everyone was round at my gaff eating Tunnocks teacakes and burning our bras.

HeeHeeHeeBum · 21/02/2012 19:38

8abyDust I got a letter from the hospital a couple of days after I saw the doctor for the first time. Mine is 22nd March and I'll be 12 weeks and a bit.

30 yrs 8 weeks #1

8abyDust · 21/02/2012 19:51

missbone haha i really did miss out!!

heehee thanks for that, good to know what to expect.

HeeHeeHeeBum · 21/02/2012 19:53

Ooh no bra burning for me, I've only got a couple that fit me now :)

DameFlatYouLent · 21/02/2012 19:58

No scan date for me yet, I imagine I'll get it after my booking in with the midwives on Tues next week (I'll be 8 weeks exactly). I seem to remember last time getting it half way through my 13th week and nearly going insane with impatience. I've had quite a lot of brown discharge today and a heavy feeling in my stomach. Can't help but worry Sad

YompingJo · 21/02/2012 19:59

squidkid, last week I was eating my own bodyweight in veg, couldn't get enough. This week I seem to be eating my own body weight in cake :-(((. Tomorrow I am going to the gym, which means I can't pig out at work as I get a stitch if I've eaten in about the previous billion hours before doing any exercise.

sassee, lovely to hear from you! I think you should do what feels right for you and not worry about the rest of it. Maybe giving yourself a couple of weeks to come to terms with things and work through grief may be a good idea but this is only my thoughts, I have nothing to base them on at all, maybe the best thing is just to get on with it - whatever works for you. Whatever you do, I will cheer lots when I hear about a BFP from you :)

Blimey, welcome to all the new people, it's getting hard to keep up.

I nearly threw up this morning, think I might be allergic to the person who teaches my class on a Tuesday! (I have the day out of class for planning and management duties). First time I've felt like I might actually hurl, bit grim :-(. I also have weird shooty groin pain on the left hand side where the seam of my underwear sits, at the inside top of my leg. This seems like a weirdly specific pregnancy symptom! Sickness not too bad (apart from this morning) if I eat regularly, I'm trying to eat small snacks every couple of hours, and have halved what I eat for lunch and dinner in consequence.

squidkid · 21/02/2012 20:10

YompingJo your sickness sounds like mine - think I got off light really - if I eat regularly it's ok. My job makes eating regularly hard, but I am insisting :) How is the gym working for you? I've switched to doing a lot of walking and swimming instead of my usual circuit training and running, not cause I think it's a problem, but just because, well, I've been for one run, but it felt a bit... weird. That was at 6 weeks though so i might try again.

Cake, eeurgh, now I DO feel sick.

My bras are tight too - maybe I will burn them. I don't seem to have grown anywhere else... I used to be bigger when I was younger but the last few years have been reasonably slim, AND my boobs were down to a 34D or DD, which is a lovely size - grr, don't want big boobs again! My nipples have been erect since January 24th. Now that's a pregnancy symptom no one told me about. TMI, haha!

32, 8+2, first kid!

missbone · 21/02/2012 20:19

Dame FlatYou Lent, it seems to me, from reading others' posts, that week 7 is the week for brown discharge. Try not to worry. Remember, your GP would be totally disinterested unless you had strong pains and red blood x

P.S...I love this thread! I'm on it all day - on-and-off - but I'm like an excited child waiting for all you workers to get home and tell me about your days (pathetic, I know) Smile

P.P.S..One Born Every Minute USA tonight at 10pm on More4 (or an hour later on More4+1)

Me: 40 yrs, 7+1 (am I frozen in time, or what?!), 1st baby.

HeeHeeHeeBum · 21/02/2012 20:26

Eek! I've just had to tell my two closest friends as they were trying to arrange a trip away close to my due date. It suddenly seems much more real...

squidkid · 21/02/2012 20:32

Heeheeheebum I'm telling my two best friends on Saturday, giant party in London, want someone on my side to rescue me from people giving me drinks and find me a bed before 4am! I'm so nervous about it!

(I've seen one of these friends three times already since I got pregnant and he hasn't picked up on it yet, even though before this I was never one to turn down a glass of wine! Boys are a bit unobservant with stuff like this sometimes I think...)

squidkid · 21/02/2012 20:33

What did they say?

HeeHeeHeeBum · 21/02/2012 20:38

missbone I keep checking the thread too, it cheers me up at work :)

squidkid Sounds like a good idea if there is wine to be had :) I don't live in the same city as my two friends so it always take a lot of organising to meet up. I didn't want to keep making excuses so I just sent them both an email. I don't know why but it felt really odd, probably because I'm the first one of us to get pregnant.

Bubblebell1 · 21/02/2012 20:39

Hey all.
How is everyone?
sas I am thinking of you, wish I was there for a shoulder to cry on. If u need anything just ask.

squid so jealous that u have stayed the same. I've gained 3 kilos since I found out and I'm gutted. I'm literally swelling up like violet bouregade from Charlie and the chocolate factory.
I do feel lucky tho my cousin is a midwife and so far she's been brilliant listening to my woes and helps that she's on first name terms with my consultant and midwife. I'm hoping she will be able to deliver my baby. But thats a long way off yet.
miss I too lurk all day. Smiling at at the posts.

Also for those having problems with epu I'd recommend getting a drs referral. Brown blood Is a warning sign too until a viable pregnancy is seen in the womb. They are busy and once your booked in by gp they normally show a little compassion.
However. I had an early scan in 2010 and the spmographer made a huge mistake and caused a lot of heartache. So sometimes it's best to wait.
Different strokes for different folks and all that.

I'm pooped and still checking boobs for tenderness Blush and analysing my symptoms. Roll on 28 march. Next scan and I'll b 13 wks Grin.

I have an appointment tomorrow with my consultant. I am nervous. Don't really know what to expect.

My pancake made me hurl Sad

YompingJo · 21/02/2012 20:56

Oh, bubblebell1, sending you sympathy. Hurling after a pancake day pancake is NOT fair!

OP posts:
Bubblebell1 · 21/02/2012 21:03

Thanks yomping I was disappointed I'd been looking forward to it all day, i might try again tomorrow my sickness is worse in the evenings. Or maybe I should give it a miss and try and shed this 3 kilos Sad

bettybat · 21/02/2012 21:06

squidkidd - hope it's not too late for the flourless pancakes!

You separate the yolks from the white, whisk the whites to peaks, mix in the yolks and then fry in lots of butter. In a separate pan, melt some blueberries and when it's kind of jammy, pour over the pancakes. If you have it, add in some dessicated coconut!

missbone · 21/02/2012 21:18

Bubble I've put 5lbs on since Christmas Day, if that's any consolation (I only got preggo on 17th. Jan so I can't blame it all on that!) I blame it on resigning from my gym and giving up smoking, as I'm eating exactly the same as I always have: tons of fish, chicken, veg and chocolate. Can I ask, Bubble, are you still having worrying discharge/bleeding? Why on earth are you having to wait until 28th. March when you're having problems? I just don't understand all this...and what kind of 'mistake' did the bloody sonographer make? Can you talk about it here? Gosh! I'm sorrry. Ignore me if you like x

missbone · 21/02/2012 21:20

Bettybat, that sounds entirely divine!!

Bubblebell1 · 21/02/2012 21:31

miss it's fine. I don't mind talking about it. Just don't want to scare anyone. If it's too much just tell me to shut up.

Was 5 wks pg. Very sure of my dates as I used clomid to conceive. Went to epu as I was having crampy pains and brown discharge. Go in for my scan and the sonographer turned the monitor round and got all flustered. She said I'm sorry but your baby is dead. I was shocked and confused. She turned it off and said your baby's heart stopped at appox 13 weeks but unfortunately the baby is not in your womb.
I was gob smacked. I said please check this can't be right. ( I'd poas every month for last 2 yrs all -ive so couldn't be true)
She said she was sorry and didn't need to and I was rushed to theatre. Dr explained to my mum and dh that was risky because Big baby and placenta needed to be removed from my bowel.
Go to theatre wake up and I ask if the found the baby. She said no they were going to scan me again and operate again. Same lady and her boss scan me again 2 days later and she says I'm ever so sorry I made a mistake.
I started bleeding a few days later Sad
