Sorry - my DD was messing with the computer and sent before I had finished

TheGrandOldDuke good idea but I am outraged that you have had to do that - seriously that is shoddy. I am crossing everything for you. Hope you have someone going with you to hold your hand. Hugs x

bettybat · 21/02/2012 11:56

Apart from complete meltdowns about cats and living arrangements, not feeling hugely pregnant except - Saturday night in bed, suddenly my uterus started feeling like it was doing somersaults! What's that about? It was the strangest sensation.

I'm eating large (MASSIVE) amounts of spinach, leeks, cabbage with meat or fish, and last night very dear DH made me flourless pancakes with melted blueberries. YUM!

I'd actually quite like some morning sickness. Officially five weeks today so I guess it's (generally) a few weeks off.

Fingers crossed TheGrandOldDuke, hope everything is ok xxx

missbone · 21/02/2012 12:12

Bettybat, I'm with you on the cabbage and fish. My bum stinks Hmm

missbone · 21/02/2012 12:13

Bettybat, what's up with the cat/living arrangements? Do tell...

bettybat · 21/02/2012 12:28

Oh I started a thread in Pregnancy about having a melt down about my rental flat, stupid landlady, my beloved cat and generally feeling very irresponsible and a failure because DH and I haven't managed to own our own place in London yet.

Complete meltdown but the lovely ladies in here pulled things back into perspective :)

HaggisNeepsTatties · 21/02/2012 12:42

Hi all,

Can I join you?
I'll be seven weeks pregnant tomorrow with my first (I'm 33)
Had some spotting last week so dr sent me to the EPU and had a scan (too early for heartbeat but everything was in the right place and the right size)
I've had a previous miscarriage and a couple of gynae ops for other things, so feeling very nervous but the EPU were great and told me to call if I had any concerns - going back a week on Thursday for a follow up scan so hopefully will see the heartbeat then.
I'm feeling quite thankful that EPU were so supportive reading about GrandOldDuke and her experiences with them...I hope that everything goes well on Thursday for you

x

RunningOutOfIdeas · 21/02/2012 12:44

Hello All. May I join you? I am due on 12th October (I think). I have one DD who is 3.8.

I am having huge dilemas about this pregnancy. I had a mmc in November 2010 (baby stoppped developing at about 7-8 weeks). So in many ways an early scan for reassurance at about 8 weeks is tempting to ask for. However DH is abroad until April, so I would have to go to an early scan alone. I have not even booked in with my MW yet. I feel like sticking my head in the sand until DH returns. Probably not a sensible opition since I am over 40.

I am starting to feel a little nauseous. With DD I was never actually sick, but had a few weeks of fairly constant nausea. I found that eating little and often or huge amounts of chocolate helped.

twolittlemonkeys · 21/02/2012 12:53

Welcome aboard HaggisNeepsTatties and RunningOutOfIdeas. HNT I am 7 weeks tomorrow too. I too am torn over the idea of an early scan - I would love one for reassurance, but I miscarried at 9 weeks, a few days after having an early scan which showed a heartbeat, so we announced it thinking all would be fine, so I don't want to get my hopes up early only to have them dashed. Apparently though, if a HB is seen at 8 weeks, the chance of MC is only 2% so I guess I was just very unlucky.

Anyway, I've made my difficult phone calls and am now heading off for a nap :)

TheGrandOldDuke · 21/02/2012 13:16

Welcome haggis and running Smile

Bed rest is very boring. It's like my idea of heaven usually, but the reality and the reason for it has taken the shine off it.

Yes I've booked the private scan....it's at the EPU that I called this morning... Hmm

Have discovered reduced fat chocolate digestives. 30%less fat=you can eat 30% more of them, and for me it's all about quanitity at the moment, to pass the time!!

Beeblebear · 21/02/2012 13:42

Yuck, going back to work after a long weekend is tough. Didn't get in any afternoon nap yesterday despite only getting about 5hour s of sleep the night before. Screw the no caffeine rule. I'm definately going to need a tea today.

On the tmi report, my bowels are now moving slower than molasses! I guess it's a good sign but I don't like habing to get up a half an hour earlier in the mirning just to give myself enough time in the wc.

Oh and the gas..even my dogs would not stay in the same room as me last night. Poor dh, I had to put a sign on the bedroom for saying " radioactive, enter at your own risk"

And can I say, looking ay car seats, strollers, and travel systems is overwhelming!

Ps. GAG at the infected bellybutton comment!

missbone · 21/02/2012 13:47

Welcome and congratulations Haggis & Running Thanks Thanks

It's a real quandary, isn't it, this early scan business? I'm terrified of MMC...I couldn't bear the misery of being told at, say 7 wks, that baby was fine, only to be told at 12 week scan that he/she died at a later date [shudders] However, if I'd had a previous MMC like you, Running, I would be uber tempted to go and get that early scan. I certainly wouldn't wait for DH to return; you don't neeed him for a scan. I know you're tempted to bury your head in the sand, but, for today, you are pregnant, so pick up the phone and book your first appointment with the midwife (do you hear me, young lady?!) Wink P.s..how old are you, exactly?

Does anyone worry that early scans are dangerous? (Ridiculous question, probably, I know).

Duke, what time and date is your scan? I'll be praying for you x

Me: 40.5 yrs, 7+1, 1st baby.

celebmum · 21/02/2012 14:08

Hello ladies, I think I may have popped in early on in the previous thread but there were quite a few around that time so I hope u don't mind me joining late! I'm a little over 5 weeks with DC2 (DS is 22months) EED is 20/oct Grin

Not much going in at the mo a bit tired but who isn't with a toddler! Grin

RunningOutOfIdeas · 21/02/2012 14:20

Hi Missbone. I will be 41 in a couple of months. I promise I will make an appointment on my way home from work this afternoon.

I agree I don't need DH with me for the scan, if the result is good. From my experience of my mmc, I would really need him looking after DD if the scan is not good news. I have no family in this country able to help. Also, for DH it is really horrible to be far away and unable to come back to be with me.

bettybat · 21/02/2012 14:23

So can you just ask for an early scan, anyway?

HaggisNeepsTatties · 21/02/2012 14:50

Hi all,

Thank you for the welcomes. Thanks

The early scan thing is difficult isn't it? Although I had one last week and all was fine, I can help thinking that he/she might have just decided to stop groowing right after it, so until I have the scan next week and hopefully see a heartbeat I'm finding it hard to relax.
twolittlemonkey's stat about there being a 2% chance of miscarriage if you see a heartbeat at 8 weeks is a bit more reassuring though.

We're going back home to Scotland this weekend and plan on telling my parents, although part of me is really worried to incase I jinx anything.

RunningOutOfIdeas · 21/02/2012 14:52

I have no idea whether I could have an early scan. I think different areas have different rules. I have also wondered about paying for a private scan after 8 weeks to reassure me, but I am aware of others who have had a scan then and still had bad news at 12 weeks.

HaggisNeepsTatties · 21/02/2012 14:55

misbone I have to say I'm not too worried about early scans - the only thing I heard once was of someone who had a little bleeding afterwards because they have cervical erosion, but it wasn't harmful for the baby

bettybat I think like a lot of these things it's a bit of a postcode lottery. At my local EPU you have to be referred by your GP, but once you are they are really good. I had a scan last week as I had abdominal pain and light spotting. It sounds like other's won't do anything unless you have loads of bright red blood...

missbone · 21/02/2012 15:17

Haggis is correct. I just rang my local EPU and told them I was over 40 and freaking out with MC neuroses etc but she categorically stated that unless we are bleeding red blood or in agony, we will have to wait until our 12 wk scan Of course, there is always the private option (approx £80-£100).

Welcome, Celebmum, and congratulations! Thanks

missbone · 21/02/2012 15:28

Sassee very kindly privately messaged me at the weekend after reading that I had been asking after her. She has miscarried and is obviously finding this terribly hard after suffering the same during another pregnancy. She has been lurking and reading about our progress but unsurprisingly finds it much too difficult to actively join in with our discussions. She is at a crossroads: does she wait for a while before trying again (but is aware of her age) or does she get back in the saddle? She is naturally very low in spirit and terrified. To make matters worse, she works in Child Protection, which involves separating babies and children from their families etc. I know she would appreciate anyone saying hello to her, publicly, on this thread, so don't be afraid to mention her (or offer her comfort or advice) in your postings in the coming days. If any of you pray, please ask for God's blessing on her and her efforts to conceive. Thank you.

Littlepurpleprincess · 21/02/2012 16:01

DH has just walked into the kitchen and shouted "everything smells like ginger! My fault Blush

It is nice to hear from Sassee again, but not nice to hear she is suffering Sad. We are thinking of you!

twolittlemonkeys · 21/02/2012 16:16

LPP - better than my house, which stinks of fish, thanks to last night's dinner... I have had the windows open but now it's too cold and I'm burning scented candles to get rid of the stench.

Well, my baby brain totally got the better of me today - I was supposed to be helping out in DS1's class this afternoon. Only remembered when I went to pick him up at 3.30 that it wasn't Weds and I've gone in every Tuesday since Sept so not exactly a new arrangement. Whoops. What an eejit. His teacher was fine and I'm going in Thursday now but am Blush at my mistake. Here I was, arsing around on MN, when I was meant to be changing the kids' library books.

Littlepurpleprincess · 21/02/2012 16:25

LOL! Love the baby brain. I forgot to feed DS the other day. He was not amused....not so sure about parenting two if I forget to feed the one I already have. Oh goodness, people pay me to care for their kids!

Angelico · 21/02/2012 17:00

Hey all newbies, a great flood of BFP's! :o [waves]

Grandold just make the most of the bedrest, you'll look back and think, "How did I not enjoy that more?!" :o

Sassee we miss you :( It's a tough decision for you. My sister had a MC before she had her DS and was advised to wait. She didn't because apparently it's easier to get pregnant just after being pregnant - she got pregnant within 2 months and had my lovely nephew. So let it settle and then see how you feel x

Squidkid how the hell does one get a belly button infection?! :o It sounds like the kid of thing you'd almost have to try to get!!! Or was it a dodgy piercing?

On the constipation front, it had gone for a week and a half but I'm now packed and desperate. Just wolfed down 2 kiwis in the hope of shifting something. Remembering the Burgen bread trick Missbone! :o

missbone · 21/02/2012 17:13

Monkeys, you made me laugh! You're going to give us preggos a bad name!
...and, LPP, forgetting to feed your son is hilarious, but I'm truly terrified I'll leave my little one on a bus or something!

Angelico, I once got thrush in my belly button and it stank! I still have no idea how the hell that came about!! It was red-raw inside, smelled of babies' nappies and itched like buggery. Nice.

Where is the irrepressible Turnwest, I wonder? I'm a tad worried about her...

milk · 21/02/2012 17:50

Sassee, we truly miss you :( Please keep lurking, as eventually I want you to post happy news :)
