12 week scan- slightly small for dates

I'm 11+3 or thereabouts with #1. Had my 12 week dating scan today and all was well with the baby but the sonographer said it was slightly small for dates but nothing to worry about- 42 mm instead of 45 mm which is the minimum size expected for dates (42mm is I mean). Means I have to go back in 2 and a half weeks for another dating scan and NT test. Annoying as I did think 11+3 was a little early especially as my dates could be slightly out and I'll be 14 weeks by next appointment which seems to be leaving things a little late...

Really wanted to start telling people this weekend but feel in limbo now...

Anyone else had this?

If everything else was fine with baby then I would just say the dates are slightly out. You get to see your baby again soon, bonus! At least they are keeping an eye on it for now.

Thank you

Just did some research and average fetal size at 11 weeks is 41 mm and average at 12 weeks is 54 mm so I guess my dates are just a few days out, maybe I ovulated slightly later that month or something. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. I think I just wanted the 12 week scan joy and just left the hospital a little bit deflated!

Had a MC last year so a bit paranoid with this pregnancy! Told people and then had to untell them so don't want to do that again.

I wouldn't worry about a discrepancy of a few days. My DD was only 10 weeks at my dating scan a few years ago, when I thought she'd be 12 weeks. They didn't rescan me, just told me my dates were wrong. Sounds like they are just being very very cautious, which is probably a good thing. Hope its all fine at your next scan.

Hello, I went for what I thought was my 12 week scan at what I thought was 11+5 according to my dates. Baby was too small for measurements and was dated at 11+1. It measured 42mm and needed to be 45 to do the Nuchal measurement. I went back ten days later as this was over the christmas break and all was well, the baby had grown and the nuchal was all fine. however, they dayed me another day behind so I am now 6 days behind my dates which I agree is probably right as I didn't have text book 28 day cycles. We told everyone in the period between the two scans as we were reassured enought that there actually was a baby in there! Try not to worry and see if as an extra chance to see your little one.

Thanks all

A bit worried that according to my dates I will be 14+1 at the next scan on 7 March which I think is too late for the NT scan (cut off is 13+6 AFAIK). Have managed to rearrange for next Friday (so a week today on the 24th) when I should be 12+3 or, if my dates are a few days out, at least 12 weeks. My cycle is pretty regular so I don't think I could be more than a couple of days out. Hopefully the little bean will creep up those vital 3 mm in order for them to do the NT tests!

We may tell family this weekend as have already told them we are visiting (didn't say why) but wait until next weekend for telling friends...

Thanks again- most reassuring!
