Have been having leg cramps on and off mostly at night for a few weeks (iam 28 weeks pg) last week or so they have been EXCRUTIATING-honestly i have never felt pain like it.

Usually in lower leg and foot, sometimes in my thigh-had cramp this morning in toes/foot and leg that lasted 15 mins it felt like my toes were literally twisting round the cramping was so severe. My leg has been painful all day since and i can hardly walk, cant sit down or wear shoes as it comes back.

Ive been taking osteocare tablets as health food shop said the calcium and magnesium would help and also had some tonic water (quinine in it meant to help??) but it is just getting worse.

It sounds stupid to be so dramatic about cramp but it is that bad and is affecting me every minute of the day and a lot of the night. Is there anything else i can do/take to help?

Is it just one leg? I had a similar sort of pain caused by a trapped nerve in pregnancy (oddly the nerve was in my back but most of the pain in my leg). Physio sorted it out.

I did also get cramp but only when dehydrated. Have you mentioned it to your midwife?

It is mostly my right leg and is a lot more severe that side but have had it in other leg too.The gp and midwife said it is normal to get cramp in pregnancy but I had it with my other dcs and it was not this severe.

Admittedly my pain threshold is rubbish but this morning after 15 mins of the worst cramp ever i was in tears im sure if it had gone on any longer id have fainted .

Magnesium for cramps. But make sure you're drinking enough water every day. Hope it gets better!

I can sympathise with you, I was on holidays last week and woke up in the middle of the night screaming because I thought i'd been shot in the leg- seriously I have never felt pain like it- I was screaming and DH jumped up panicking!

He tried to massage it out and I was biting the pillow trying to muffle my screams as we were staying with people- he said it felt like there was a huge ball in my calf- it was agony and I was awake for a good hour sobbing about the pain!

I couldn't walk properly for 3 days after! talking to people we were staying with the husband was very sporty and said to eat ready salted crisps to help keep the salt content up?!

Anything is worth a go I have never felt pain like it and I really don't want it to happen again!

Hope you're ok! Xx

Hi I have had this in early pregnancy though, ended up having quite a bad water infection and as soon as I took antibiotics it stopped. Hope it gets better soon x

I've been gettign cramps this pg too - though nowhere near as bad as yours - and have variously been advised to eat more salt, bananas or drink more milk. It may be worth asking a chiropractor about the possibility of the trapped nerve suggestion if it is so dominantly one sided - is it the side you sleep on?
