I need some reassurance. I am almost 12wks pg and i have received a letter saying the 'Doctor has received the result of your recent urine test. However the laboratory has requested another sample for further testing for a more accurate result'

I am really worried something is wrong - does anyone know what this means?

When did you take the sample. They usually recommend that you use urine from you first morning wee. Later on the day may have been too dilute, especially if you'd had a lot of liquid beforehand.

It probably just got contaminated in the lab. Nothing to worry about.

It probably means they have a result they don't entirely believe. We used to get results like this on the wards as urine samples are easy to contaminate. Make sure you take your sample mid stream. I'm sure it's fine and if you have got an infection it'll be easily treated. Congratulations on your pregnancy!!Smile

Or someone knocked the pot over so they couldn't do the test!

What were they testing for? I've never had a urine sample sent away and the results sent to the doctor, I've had the MW do a stick test at every appointment apart from when my BP was up and they wanted to do further tests but even then the urine was tested in a fancy machine by the day unit MW while I was there.

I had many issues along this line. Basically I wipe 'back to front' and it means the samples are never "clean". After many goes trying for an uncontaminated one, I gave up.

Oh I get this all the time. Could be protein in urine - which can be sign of a UTI or just that some vaginal discharge ended up in the sample bottle. Or something to do with the testing process. I really can't think of any "bad news" results that would come from a urine sample.

my wee was really cloudy - does that mean anything?

Might mean you have discharge in the sample which confuses protein test. If you try and wee into the little pot directly, and it touches your bits, it's really easy to contaminate. Pee into a measuring jug or large glass without it touching you.
The whole wee in a tiny pot thing is hilarious - esp when you are very pregnant as it's hard to reach and you end up getting wee everywhere. TMI I know but its true LOL - just another of those undignified aspects of pregnancy!!!!

I had this, think they send it off at booking in appointment?

Anyhow, got the same result and thought, 'bloody hell, I cant even pass a urine sample test there's no hope for this baby!' Grin

Lots of possible reasons as above, sure its nothing to worry about! It was mentioned to me to make sure it was a 'mid stream' sample. HTH
