nct classes, sitting on floor?

Hi, this is quite trivial I guess, but have just got an email from the nct about the class we are attending this weekend, and it said feel free to bring a cushion or something. Does this mean we will be sat on the floor for 4 and a half hours?! That really doesn't work for me, cushion or not, I have SPD and get uncomfortable. Someone please tell me I've got the wrong end of the stick, for the love of god!

Why not email back and ask?

I expect there will be chairs, but perhaps they are hard chairs and you might like a cushion. I actually sat on the floor for mine because I found it comfier than the stackable chairs in the venue. As the weeks progressed the class members brought bean bags or birth balls to sit on!

ok, thanks. I suspect I may be overreacting slightly. I'll just go along and see what the score is the first day, and then maybe take something the next week.

The NCT class I went to was in a church hall with only hard chairs available.

Murtette · 15/02/2012 14:50

Our classes were also in a church hall so I sat on my cushion on the chair as the chairs were very uncomfortable. However, I think that they were mainly used when the DH/DP were practising how to massage our backs during contractions as we knelt on the cushions leaning over a chair whilst the DH/DPs knelt on the floor & rubbed our backs. Take an old cushion or one with a washable cover as the floor may be dusty.

HappyAsEyeAm · 15/02/2012 15:37

We had chairs in the church hall where our NCT classes were held too. We were told to bring a cushion, but it was to help the exercises/birthing positions that we went through at the end of the classes.

I honestly can't see them making you sit on the floor! But yes, the chairs will probably not be the most comfortable.

Take one of those collapsible canvas camping chairs, very comfy. Although you will feel about 65 yrs old and on a caravaning holiday!

We were told to take a cushion as well, hard chairs and so that we could use them when practising birthing positions ect if we wanted to participate.

MadMonkeys · 15/02/2012 17:46

At mine the cushions/pillows were for practising labour and birth positions. I doubt you'll be sitting on the floor.

Flybaba · 15/02/2012 19:20

I expect it's because of hard chairs. I doubt they will have you sitting on the floor! Enjoy - I was a bit Hmm about some of the advice at NCT especially in hindsight when I'd had my baby but I really enjoyed the classes and made lasting friendships with really wonderful people even though I thought they were a bunch of squares when I first met them.

PickledLily · 15/02/2012 20:31

We were told to bring cushions too. Don't panic, they are for practising labour positions! You should get chairs and our NCT teacher makes sure we aren't sitting for too long in case we get back ache etc

There have been a few activities at floor level (eg to write on large pieces of paper). We just nominate the men to do that bit, otherwise we'd all be stranded on the floor, unable to get up Grin
