Please don't judge.... I found myself in the position of pregnant, alone & having to rely on benefits for the meantime... I phoned up to ask about the Sure start maternity grant to be told that as from april 2011 it is no longer available unless it is a 1st baby or the next oldest child is 16 or over.. (I have a 9yr old daughter by my exh..who he supports)!! Having no help with buying baby stuff was a bit of a blow but cutting down at christmas & the wonderful ebay has seen me ok... My friends husband has recently lost his job & she is pregnant with their dc4.. discussing this with her she says she has heard through other forums that this new rule is going to change again soon but not sure to what ... Does anyone have any knowledge on this subject please??
