Hi, I'm 32 weeks pregnant and a consultant prescribed me 30-60mg of codeine last week for sciatica. I can't get to a the hospital pharmacy (due to the bloody sciatica!) but a family member has the same dosage of cocodamol, is it the same stuff as codeine and ok to take? I'm in quite a lot of pain, don't drive and have a poorly 1 year old to look after/wrestle. I've been stuck in the house for nearly a week now and want to scream.

They honestly wouldn't prescribe it if it was unsafe, I had cocodamol prescribed at 32 weeks for awful pleuritic chest pains and tbh I was very grateful of it.

Cocodamol is codeine and paracetamol. The ones I get are 30mg codeine and 500mg paracetamol.

How many are you to take a day? A couple will be fine a day until you can get to the pharmacy I think (though hopefully with more knowledge than me will be along to concur soon)

I took cocodamol for SPD in pregnancy not sure if they're the same thing, I'd ring your gp and see if they'll prescribe some if you can't get to hospital.

Thanks for replies peeps. Jareth the prescription says to take prn, don't even know what that means Blush Can't get app at gp but quite difficult to get there too. Will just take them of an evening i think as they make me feel a bit spaced out and see if someone will go to hospital pharmacy for me at weekend.

prn is when needed.
I have been prescribed 16/500 and 30/500, in other words 16mg codeine and 500mg paracetamol etc.

Oh is that what it means! Thanks Grin

I took it for SPD during late pregnancy as well, no negative impact on ;
DD. It was a bloody godsend in the last few weeks.

cocodamol is a mix of codeine and paracetamol. Codeine is ok if you've got a prescription for it and paracetamol is safe anyway. I've been prescribed cocodamol this week for SPD at 32 weeks.

Be aware it is a constipator as well as a pain killer.
