When should we expect to see a heartbeat?

Hi all, first time posting on here and just needed some advice. I'm between 6 and 7 weeks pregnant (first time) and have had a bit of a bumpy road so far. I had early spotting and cramping, and they diagnosed an ectopic which 3 people confirmed on my first scan. They recommended a laparoscopy to remove the pregnancy, which they did within 4 hours of the diagnosis - but when they looked inside they could no longer see the ectopic so told us it was a PUL instead (pregnancy of unknown location). Since then I've been having 48 hourly HCG tests which started off rising slowly, and now see to be doubling at the right points at last. I also has another scan at just over 5 weeks which showed an empty gestational sack in my uterus. So, it's no longer a PUL, but due to the bleeding etc, they're still not sure it's viable and said they'd have expected to see a yolk sack at that stage. I have another scan on Thurs and I'm wondering what we should expect to see if there's any hope of this pregnancy being ok? I can't help feeling optimistic after being told 100% that it was ectopic, and then being given another chance, but obviously worried about getting our hopes up after everything we've been though already.

If anyone has been in a similar situation or can offer any advice, it would be really appreciated. Thanks everyone x

I think you can see a heartbeat at 7 weeks, I'm pretty sure we did. but it depends very much on how specific you can be on your dates, ovulation day etc. when is your next scan due ???

The scan's on Thurs and I should be 6 weeks and 2 days I think (although they're telling me 7 weeks which I think is wrong as I ovulated v late).

Thanks for your reply.

So I guess you may or may not if it's that early. Good luck though, I guess the waiting is interminable.

I had early scans at 6 weeks with all 3 pregnancies, each time they saw a heartbeat but said it was not always possible to see a heartbeat by 6 weeks, so try not to worry too much if you don't.

We saw a heartbeat at 6+2 but they were very clear that they don't always see one so early and not to worry if they couldn't. By 7 weeks I think they should definitely be able to see one. I really hope it's a happy outcome for you

I had a scan today which using LMP would have put me at 7+1 but during the scan - where you could clearly see a heartbeat - the sonographer said based on measurements I was only around 6 weeks.

She did say that it's not always possible but that they could get a much clearer heartbeat and scan from an internal ultrasound

Thanks everyone - really appreciate your replies. I'll let you know what we find out on Thursday. I've never known time to go so slowly!
