4D scanning and gender

So DH and I have decided to go for a private 4D scan. Thought it would be a lovely thing to do especially as his job takes him out of the country for long periods of time and he has missed a few things already. I'll be 27 weeks at the time of the appointment but the thing is we really really don't want to know the sex of the baby and it seems, after talking to friends that foetal sexing is the main reason these scans are used (where we are in Scotland, the NHS won't confirm the gender).
A few people have suggested that because of the clarity it might not be possible to keep the gender a secret!
Guess what I'm asking, has anyone else had a 4D scan and still been a blissfully unaware member of team yellow??

Thanks ladies. This is my first time at all of this and knowing I have a bit of a surprise at the end is really helping with all of the rubbish pregnancy aliments!

Hi ya i have had 2 4D scans with my DD and DS and I know from past experiences that the midwife wll ask if you wat to know or not. You could say when you go in to the appointment that you dont want to know the gender and they will avoid telling or showing too much.
With DS we didnt want to know but dont know what happened when i got in there i just had to know lol.

My friend had a 4D scan and asked not to be told gender so I guess they're just careful over that area!

I had one done when I was 27 weeks too. We already knew the sex from the NHS scan, but wanted confirmation. If we hadn't asked, the sonographer wouldn't have shown us and there was no way of 'accidentally' finding out, as she said it was surprising the amount of people who have 4D scans done and do not want to know. Also, it wasn't blaringly obvious because she's (hopefully) a girl!

Congratulations and good luck :)

I had one at 30 weeks a couple of weeks ago and it was AMAZING! I still stare at the pics every day!!

I know I'm having a girl from my 20 week scan and I really searched for the whole of my 4D scan to see her bits and be reassured but I couldn't see anything, I asked the man at the end to double check she was a girl and he said he already had and she deffo is!

I completely missed it lol

Just tell them when you go in and they will avoid the area and focus on the face for you, they will do leg and arm and torso measurements at the end to check size for you just don't look if you want to be extra sure, that bit wasn't exciting anyway

i had one at 28+4 and the First thing we were asked was 'do you know or want to know the sex' we didn't and so they were able to tell us. However we were told that if we didn't want to know they can avoid said parts!

It was a fantastic experience. DH wasn't too keen on having one but once he was there and got to see how clear it was and all her little movements and how much like me she looked he loved it! And best of all we have some amazing pictures!

Absolute rubbish, we would never have seen sex had we not asked. The 3d is very focused, so dont worry.

I had a 4D scan on Saturday it was amazing and worth every penny! You can ask the sonographer to avoid the genital region and not tell you the sex - it's the face you want to see with a 4D anyway!
I know I'm having a boy and still didn't spot a willy do it it won't spoil it. One thing though I can really tell mines a boy by looking at his facial features and have seen pics if friends and you can clearly see a girls face so even if u don't see his or her genitals you might be able to work it out anyway.
