Orgasm in early pregnancy

I am 9+1 weeks pregnant with my first DC.

I had a MC towards the end of last year (very early one at about 6 weeks).
Since we've found out we're pregnant, we havent had sex but (sorry if TMI) I have been pleasing my DH in other ways! Blush

I have managed to abstain from allowing DH to perform any sort of oral sex / foreplay etc., on me - until last night!! We didnt have prenetrative sex but I did orgasm and now I'm slightly worried as I've read about how MC could be brought on by orgasm (as it causes contractions to the womb) and as I've miscarried before, its now on my mind.

I feel absolutely fine, there is no bleeding or changes in symptoms at all so no reason to worry - just want some reassurance I guess and wondered what everyone else is doing in terms of sex / masturbation / foreplay etc. Is it best to just abstain - for 9 months??!!! Shock

Sex and orgasms are meant to be completly safe unless you have other complications. However I had the same fear and we held off until we had an 8 week scan then took it gently for a while. I was nervous at the start but now I am 21 weeks feeling much more confident about it!

An orgasm would only 'cause' a MC if one was imminently about to start and so it wouldn't really cause it but hasten along the process. If your MW has put you on complete pelvis rest (i.e. no sex, no orgasms) then you obviously shouldn't but if you haven't been then I can't see the harm.

I'm not doing anything at the moment but then I have a still healing scar on my cervix (sporadic bleeding from LLETZ in Oct) and so I don't want to cause more bleeding (was told no sex if bleeding was still occuring). If I didn't have bleeding I would be and have done for my other 3 DCs

You will be fine, provided you have had no other complications (consultant or midwife would advise you to abstain if they were worried). I was active with DH right up to the birth of my DD and still active this time round at 38 weeks, no problems. Try not to worry and enjoy yourself, all those endorphins are good for the baby :)

My previous pregnancy ended in MC at 12 weeks Sad

We were really paranoid when I got pregnant this time and I remember worrying that orgasms might cause another MC and we avoided penetrative sex altogether until 13 weeks.

We really didn't want to avoid sex for the whole nine months though, so we were brave and got back into it after that, but DH has always been very careful because he is still a bit paranoid.

Enjoy yourself however feels right :)
