I'm 20 weeks on my first baby but I've not really felt any movement yet. The only thing I've felt is little pinches or pokes, pains but I think those are round ligament pains.

I'm a bit overweight and am medium height....

Does this seem normal, I keep reading about people feeling kicks, flutters, bubbles and wind like movements but I haven't felt anything like that....

i wouldn't worry too much. My mw said with your first it can be anything up to 24 weeks when you first feel movement.

lj123 · 12/02/2012 19:19

It is normal, may take a little longer to feel any movements, not many people i know was felt many movements until 22weeks, try not to worry. You may feel more in a bath.

I'm 20 weeks with second and am only feeling very small movements. With dd1 I felt more than this, and had started to feel a bit paranoid. Midwife just said it was usual to feel movements between 18 and 22 weeks, so at the moment both you and I are considered in 'normal' range. Got 20 wk scan tomorrow do will update if there is any reason for small movements-maybe the same will apply to you.

scarletforya · 12/02/2012 19:26

Thanks everyone, hope your scan goes well tomorrow justlemonade I've got one next week so I guess I just have to be patient!

I sympathise OP. With DS I only started to feel definate movements around 22 weeks, and only got proper kicks at around 26 weeks. He was born at 28 weeks so I really feel like I missed out on that aspect of pregnancy that so many mums talk about. I was dying to feel him kicking my ribs or making my bump pop out in all directions. After he was born I could barely look at pregnant women for jealousy!

Currently pregnant with DC2 and only just started to feel tiny twitches at 15 weeks. Hoping I get the full 'beaten up from the inside' experience this time around. I suspect I might be coming on here moaning in a few months that the baby never keeps still but there you go!

morethemerrier · 12/02/2012 19:31

Have you had your 20 week scan yet? I ask as I am exp my 4th DC and felt movements very differently, and a lot later than in previous pregnancies, around 17 weeks with no definite regular ones until around 25 weeks.

I have an anterior placenta this time, which was cushioning the kicks! Grin

But as others have said, you are well within the normal range, pokes is a good description though its hard when you don't know what you are supposed to be feeling, but soon in enough you will be stopped in your tracks and know for sure that your little one is saying hello!

Just to add from previous poster, with DS my placenta was anterior, that's why I felt kicks late and they weren't particularly strong so that may very well be the case with you too. This time the placenta is at the back so hoping I have a different experience.

scarletforya · 12/02/2012 20:18

Ah, thank you both. Don't think I have an anterior placenta, at earlier scans the sonographer said it was on the 'left hand side' but I'm getting another scan next Monday so hopefully will see the baby moving around then. Grin

I have had anterior placenta both times. Felt DS kick at 19 weeks and he was constantly on the move - still is at 2.4 yo! with this one, I felt the odd movement from 15 weeks, because I knew what to expect, but proper kicks - not until 22 weeks or so! Am 24 weeks on tuesday, and DH just felt a kick yesterday for the first time. Hoping this means a more placid baby this time!

Don't worry about it - baby will soon be kicking your bladder inside out! :o

justlemonade · 13/02/2012 17:35

Had the scan and got anterior placenta. Never mentioned at either of previous scans. You never know OP it might be the same for you.

scarletforya · 13/02/2012 23:39

Ah, thanks for the update lemonade that's interesting! Good to know there is an explanation eh!?

Hope you enjoyed the scan and all was well Grin

I felt my first movement at 20 + 6 and it was so subtle I wasn't even sure if it was one until they very quickly became more regular. I wouldn't worry everyone is different, apparently it's harder to feel your first than your 2nd xx

scarletforya · 20/02/2012 22:34

Had my scan today and all is well, the placenta is indeed anterior so that's why I couldn't feel the kicks.

We found out it's a little GIRL !! I am so exited and happy! Grin

Ah that's brilliant! I was hoping that would be the case! Grin

Thank you! Grin

Congratulations! I have an anterior placenta and felt nothing til last Thursday (22 wks). I'm still feeling very little - just twinges around the edges. MW said I might not feel her regularly until about 28 wks when she's big enough to kick me round the edges of the placenta x

Jackstini · 20/02/2012 23:15

I felt nothing until 22 weeks with first.
Congratulations :-)
