Just weighted myself for the 1st time since being pregnant

I'm 31+3 and I've gained nearly 2 stone, I was a porker and a size 18 to start with so it's not good!!!

Was gonna have sausage buttys for breakfast but I think I'll for for scrambled eggs on brown toast now!

I'm I'm shock I've been in denial I was convinced that I'd only gained the baby and placenta etc

Whoops

I gained well over 2 and a half stone with ds and I was 8 stone to start with. So don t worry. Eat healthily and go for a walk each day and you'll be fine. At least you have realised now. Breast feed too and it will melt off,
Mine did I've never been so skinny and healthy looking as when I was feeding!

MillyStar · 12/02/2012 09:36

Just had a healthy brekkie and I will deffo be going for a walk later!

I'm still in shock it's amazing what denial can do

Thanks for your advice

Has your midwife mentioned it at all? I had a consultant appointment and she said that I couldn't afford to put on any more weight during my pregnancy (currently 22 weeks)! I know I was on the fat side to start with but I was still Sad + Angry I don't think I am that much fatter than in my last pregnancy tbh.

MillyStar · 12/02/2012 09:53

Only been weighed at 12 weeks I'd gained about 5lbs then and my bmi was 34 so she just said I can't have a water birth!

I'm still fitting into my 18's but my bmi must be unreal now, even tho I'm sure it flesh stand now that I'm 7 month pregnant!!

Got my 31 week appt in the morning I had one 3 weeks ago and blood pressure was fine so I can't have gained too much in 3 weeks, so it doesn't seem to be affecting me

I'm so shocked Though I was expecting a stone!!!

I've put on two stone at 35 weeks, from being nine and half stone, size 12. It's only in the last couple of weeks that the extra cakes and biscuits (on top of a healthy diet) have caught up with me and I can see the extra weight on my face and legs.

I may cut back on the extra carbs a bit - I rarely eat these sweet things normally, so the desire for and enjoyment of them as a regular thing has been quite amusing, I expect it will pass and I will then lose the weight again, especially with feeding.

Sorry about my spelling and predicted text I'm on my phone lol

There's a reason most women aren't routinely weighed in pregnancy any more - how do you tell what gain is from the placenta, baby, amniotic fluid, increased blood volume, fluid retention and necessary fat stores being laid down to sustain you through birth and breastfeeding, and what is 'just' weight gain?

You can't. Put the scales away.

headfairy · 12/02/2012 09:59

I put on four stone all told with dd, lots of it was fluid in my case. I peed almost continuously for two weeks and lost over two stone without even trying!

PogoBob · 12/02/2012 09:59

I put on 4 1/2 stone when pregnant with DD and wasn't slim to start with!! I had lost all of the weight by the time DD was 16 weeks old and didn't go mad on the dieting or anything.

Obviously I'm not saying go mad and eat everything but just wanted to reassure you that it can and will come off. I suspect a chunk of my weight gain was water weight as I had dropped 2+ stone within a week of giving birth!!

MissPenteuth · 12/02/2012 10:00

I put on 3st with my first pregnancy, but by a month or two after the birth I'd lost about a stone and a half without even trying. Baby, placenta, enlarged uterus and a lot of retained fluid. There's also extra breast tissue which will hang around longer if you BF obviously, but in the longer term you'll lose that too. So it's not all extra weight that you'll have to 'lose' in the true sense :)

MissPenteuth · 12/02/2012 10:02

Ooh, lots of x-posts. I lost my water weight by having night sweats. Woke up horrible and clammy, but 2lbs lighter Grin

justhayley · 12/02/2012 10:24

I thought 2stone was an average weight gain? I think iv gained 1 stone
2-5lbs around that Mark somewhere, im 29 weeks now & with the average 1lbs a week gain I'll deff be just over 2 stone by birth! I wouldn't stress too much, my midwife said anywhere between 2-4 stone is pretty average!

MillyStar · 12/02/2012 10:53

It's just the horror of actually seeing it!

There's no excuse with the size I already was

I've had chocolate nearly Every day and there's just no need for
It, I'd say about half of my Gain is just pure greed, no nutritious values for my baby at all just sweets and rubbish

It's given me a kick up the bum fruit all the way today

I'm 29 weeks and I just weighed myself and I've put on three stone Blush . Before I was pregnant I was quite strict with my diet and worked out alot. During the pregnancy ive just too tired for workouts and eating whatever i fancy. This is DC6 and I've put on between 4 and 5 stone each time Sad (and managed to get it off after many months of hard work ) so I'm hoping this time is the same Grin

ahhhhhpushit · 12/02/2012 11:53

I started off my last preg at 10st4lb (5'8'') and ended up at 15st... I gained 50% of my body weight again!!!! Shock Midwife didnt even mention it!

I'm currenly 8+4 with DC2 and have lost half a stone so far due to morning sickness which I never had last time. Absolutely determined not to go into the 13stones this time (starting off a bit higher at 10st12lb this time).

Yummymummyyobe1 · 12/02/2012 11:55

I am 29 weeks and have gained a 1st 22lbs to date. Fingers crossed it will stay this way and I will loose the weight quite quickly so I can wear my pre pregnancy clothes this summer.
xx

Yummymummyyobe1 · 12/02/2012 11:57

That should read 1st 2lbs

phlossie · 12/02/2012 12:58

I've gained and OMG amount of weight - and most of it in the last few weeks. Couldn't do up my knee high boots over my calves, ffs. I'm 40 weeks, so just need to focus on losing it after. My advice to you is to keep active and try not to eat entire blocks of fruit and nut in one sitting!
