Help! Mucus plug just gone, pain down there - is it time?!

Hi guys,

I was due yesterday and had a sweep yesterday. Woke up this morning from pains in my lower back which then transferred to pain in the front, they were coming every half hr.

Just went to the loo now and my mucus plug has gone - it was flegm like and browny/redy in colour. The pains have also come back they happen every so often maybe half an hr.

Does this mean labour is imminent? What shall i do? Friend said now is the time to have sex to get it all going - isn't it dangerous to have sex if the plug has gone?

I'm so nervous!!!!

I'd say now's the time to get as much rest as you can tbh. That definately sounds like your plug, and I know when I lost mine, my waters went not long after and I went into full labour quite quickly after that. This might be the last chance you get to actually rest for a good long while, so grab the oportunity. Maybe have some food too.

ILoveGreggsSausageRolls · 10/02/2012 21:10

I was induced so I'm no use but I wanted to say squuuuuuuueeeee!

This could be a live birth thread

I can't actually remember what the midwifes said, is it every five mins?

Might be a little while just yet. Btw as long as your waters haven't gone then sex is fine

Noodles81 · 10/02/2012 21:11

oh wowsa ok. I'm trying to be excited but i'm so nervous! Is it possible that it can still be days to go?
And does this mean my waters will go?

On what you've said, could be tonight...could be in a few days...but you are definitely going to have a baby soon Grin!

Noodles81 · 10/02/2012 21:12

I'm so nervous girls! It's my 30th birthday tomorrow as well!!!

Wigeon · 10/02/2012 21:14

I would say if you are having manageable pains every half hour, then it could well be days. The pains could well go away and come back.

Or they could just ramp up and you could have a baby by tomorrow. Smile

Having lost the plug doesn't mean anything really in terms of waters. With DD1, my waters only went when I was in hospital in very established labour. I'd lost the plug 2 days previously. With DD2 I lost the plug a few hours before she was born, and my waters started dripping (no "pop" and gushing) soon afterwards.

So...anything goes!

Definitely recommend you have as much rest as possible. Go to bed now. Have some light food if you feel like it.

MooncupandPizza · 10/02/2012 21:15

Ooh, what a 30th birthday present!

My mucus plug went around 3pm wiht my DS and he was born 12.41am that night! My waters didn't go until I got to the hospital and a midwife did an internal exam to see how far along I was.

Good luck and get thee onto www.contractionmaster.com

Wigeon · 10/02/2012 21:15

Do you have a birth ball? A bit of light bouncing might be good.

Happy birthday for tomorrow! Smile

Noodles81 · 10/02/2012 21:15

I ordered a curry before the plug went!

OP posts:
Wigeon · 10/02/2012 21:16

Curry - good plan!

Yawner247 · 10/02/2012 21:16

Best of luck your on your way....9 months prep to put into practice...get the wheatbag in the microwave!! Worked wonders for my early period pains! Or in the bath!! Grin

Wigeon · 10/02/2012 21:16

Do you have someone with you at the moment?

MooncupandPizza · 10/02/2012 21:16

Oh yeah, and re:sex, I think you are right, not supposed to have sex after the plug is gone. Certainly not after waters have gone.

Noodles81 · 10/02/2012 21:21

Thanks all! x

OH is here with me and he's jumping around with excitement! Pains are still coming and going - trying not to think about them and watch easties and eat curry!

I hope it is soon and not days - best get the TENS out!

Yawner247 · 10/02/2012 21:24

Marvellous machines them there tens!! Loved mine only used it to half its potential. Hope it's not long til your lo arrives Grin

BikeRunSki · 10/02/2012 21:24

Sounds like things are starting. With both mine plug and waters went together, and baby arrived 7ish hours later. Both were emcs, but was 10 cm both times.

4madboys · 10/02/2012 21:29

you can have sex after your plug has gone, mine went a few weeks before labour! its common to loose the 'plug' after a sweep, but the pains means it sounds like things may be getting going!

it is NO sex once your waters have gone tho! not that you will feel like it then anyway!

good luck, if you have a birth ball then that is good to sit on to make sure baby is in a good postion and it will open your pelvis up etc, maximise the pressure of the babies head on your cervix :)

Hattie11 · 10/02/2012 21:29

Ah how lovely will be a fab birthdy present hopefully!

Although - everones right it could be days yet. I remember spending many evening like you getting excited and not having babe for another few days!

my policy was to go to bed, because all my babes have been born in the night - i wake with the full on contractions - i like to think by going to sleep my bodies done most of the work whilst i've slept!

Good luck and keep us posted! x

Noodles81 · 10/02/2012 21:36

Defo got pains at the front now coming every half hour.

I was given an induction date of next Friday yesterday so i hope he comes before then! DO you ladies think it sounds like he will be here before induction date?!

I have a ball yep, i'll make sure i go sit on it after this curry!

I knew i should of gone to the bookies! What a pressie indeed!! x

Wigeon · 10/02/2012 21:39

Go to bed after the curry! Don't sit up all night waiting for the baby!

I would be very surprised if you don't have a baby by next Friday Grin!

MooncupandPizza · 10/02/2012 21:39

get your OH to go on contractionmaster.com to time the contractions (it's a great thing for OHs to do while you are in labour!)

I think it sounds promising but labour is so bloody unpredictable. Mine were every half hour or so for AGES (maybe 3pm to 10pm) before they ramped up.

Good luck, fingers crossed, hope you'll get a birthday baby!

Firsttimer78 · 10/02/2012 21:41

Ooh, how exciting!

Good luck and happy birthday!

Flisspaps · 10/02/2012 21:45

Yes, this could be it.

It could be quick, it could take days (next Friday might be a bit much, but you never know!)

Now is not the time to be whizzing about with excitement, be active but conserve some energy. Sleep tonight if you can. You're going to need all the energy you can muster when things really get going :)

Good luck!

Chubfuddler · 10/02/2012 21:47

I predict your baby will be burn by midday

Monday.

Joygirl78 · 10/02/2012 21:52

I was born on my mothers birthday. It has always been lovely that we have shared a birthday.
