Hello

Any Portland mums in the net?

I am 9 weeks and just had my first appointment and my first scan at the Portland Hospital. It was a wonderful moment for me and my husband. I love my doctor. She is fun, relaxed and vey competent.

Would love to hear your story about the Portland (positive and negative). Why did you choose it? Which doctor? Antenatal classes? Birth Plan?

Why that response lovely?

The nearest I've been to private care is paying for a scan at the fetal medicine centre in harley street but I'm sure there will be some posters here who will be able to regale you with their experiences.

At the risk of receiving a Hmm myself, I'll bite.

I had an ELCS at the Portland about a month ago. I went there because my c-section was medically necessary due to a gynaecological condition I have and my health insurance co was willing to pony up for private delivery. I went to the Portland because my gynaecologist recommended a particular obstetrician and his private practice is at the Portland only.

I had my antenatal care on the NHS so can't comment on private antenatal care, but I have waxed lyrical about my section and the postnatal care in this thread

Because I knew I was having a section, we didn't do any antenatal classes and I had no birth plan. We did do a baby first aid course at the Portland - highly recommended. Re birth plans, tbh the birth experience wasn't that important to me, and I was content to place myself in the hands of a senior consultant to get the baby out. That said, I found the section a very positive experience.

Thank you so much and congratulations ghislaine.

It sounds great. Pat O B is actually working in a team with the consultant i am with. Its good to know that he is great too. Mums have commented a lot on him on mumsnet and it seems as if he has a fantastic reputation.

I preferred to be with a woman doctor and think she is wonderful. I hope to achieve a natural birth.

Do you work for the Portland?

starchildmum · 21/04/2012 12:52

Pickle and Lovelyboobs, for political comments you should maybe use another platform.

Hi starchildmum,
I deliver in May at the Portland. Will let you know how I get on!
Attended NCT antenatal classes instead of Portland-run so I could meet local mums in my area.

starchildmum · 09/05/2012 23:42

Hi Fresia

How exciting! That is now any moment!!! What kind of birth are you planning? Who is your doctor?

Yes, a local antenatal class is probably much nicer. I was thinking about the life centre in Notting Hill but not sure.

Please keep me updated how u get on at the Portland. Good luck!
