Horrible post nasal drip making me miserable

Has anyone had one and can promise me that it's not going to stay till the end?

I feel alright generally, a little bit nauseous and bloody tired but ok except for this vile drip stuck in the back of my throat. It is making me literally vomit up snot mucus and I am constantly coughing and trying to clear it. Blowing my nose makes no difference and making myself sick only clears it temporarily. I was up for hours in the night because it is so uncomfortable.

Does anyone have any tips of how to cope with it? I'm only 8 weeks :(

You have my sympathy! I've never had this personally (though at 33+6 I've had a stuffy nose for far too long - am worried about breathing to relax in labour!) but my DH used to get it. Would cause endless months of coughing every winter, especially at night.

I'd recommend sterimar saline spray - I've found it good with my stuffy nose (since I can't really take anything else!). My DH also used to use a neti pot and found it good.

Thanks Flip, I really appreciate the sympathy as I am feeling rather sorry for myself :(

I will get sone of the saline stuff but the thought of a netti pot makes me feel a bit funny so maybe i'll leave that till i've been driven completly mad :)

I've just had half an hour with my head over a bowl of steam which seems to have shifted the drip for the time being. I don't think i'll fancy doing that at 4am though!

I hope your snotty nose clears soon :)

My DH was the same about the neti pot, especially as was recommended by his mum who's a right old hippy (and DH very much is not!) but once he got the hang of it he really rated it.

i have a dreadful post nasal drip under the best of circs but pregnancy has made it unbearable. I could not lay down without choking on the gunk dripping down the back of my throat.

Midwife suggested i try the sudafed nasal pump. THe active ingredient acts locally to stop the membranes producing so much mucus and you get such a small dose per application that if any did migrate into your wider blood stream it is unlikley to have any affect on baby.

It works a treat. i can actualy sleep and breathe through my nose.

The NeilMed sinus rinse (a bit like a neti pot) takes a bit of getting used to but it does the job! Just make sure you use lukewarm water or it will be a bit of a shock but it really doesn't sting- I find it better than the sterimar.
You'll need to go to a big chemist to get it though- got mine at an out of town Boots.

I get awful post nasal drip from my allergies and use this. Works amazingly well to reduce the mucous membranes. Was skeptical at first, but the science behind it is rigorous

Try cutting out milk. It worked for me and my dad- took about 3 days.
