2cm -so how long to go?

Am 39+2 with baby no. 2 and just had sweep today. Told I am 2cm dilated but cervix is still long (3cm).

The reason for sweep is that I am really hoping for a VBAC but they will not let me go past my date (various reasons) and so a c-section booked for this Fri unless I go into labour naturally before then. Have been trying everything as you can imagine.

Is 2cm good news or is it still anyone's guess? How long after sweep do you start feeling things if you do at all? Have had BH and mild period pains yesterday but they've gone.

I have 3 days left to get myself into labour...come on baby - time to make your entrance.

I was 2cm at my sweep at 41 weeks, and 2-3cm at 42+1 just before they started my induction.

Curlychica · 06/02/2012 22:12

Oh no, doesn't sound too hopeful then.

That's just me, first time round.

Some women go from 0cm to 10cm in a matter of a couple of hours so there is just no way of knowing (and there's no way of getting yourself into labour, that just happens!)

Best of luck.

I was 1 and a half cm at my sweep when 41 weeks. Sweep was at 10 am. By half 10 my labour really kicked in to the point I couldn't climb stairs. At half 3 I was 5 cm. By 7 pm she was born! Don't give up hope!!!

HI there,

I'm not sure what your reasons for your previous c-section was but you are well within your right to have a VBAC and not have another c-section. It is completely your choice and neither MW's or consultants can 'tell' you what you are to do.
The best chances of you having your VBAC would be to go into spontaneous labour without any interventions. There is a VBAC yahoo group that provides excellent support and up to date advice about vbac which I would highly recommend joining. I am having a home birth next month after a c-section last time. I know for me personally that it is the best place to give birth.

Whatever happens I hope you have a wonderful birth. :-)

I was 2cm at my (5th!!) sweep and fully dilated when I arrived at the labour ward 6 hours later. Good luck xx

I was 2 cm from about 36 weeks and didn't go into labour until my due date. Sorry! Prob not what you want to hear!

I second what Meloondoo said, they have no rights to 'not let you' do anything, it is your choice and if you delay they will have to suck it up! Yahoo VBAC group very good, I am due to VBAC shortly (37+1).

I went from 2cm to 10cm in about 8 hours with my first.

Good luck with your HBAC Meloondoo :)

LadyKatieJ · 07/02/2012 09:16

I third what Meloondoo said!! Yahoo VBAC group are excellent and I too hope to have HBAC in June Smile
You could just cancel the c-section, take the pressure off yourself (and baby!) and late nature take it's course?!?
Be brave, your body knows when baby is ready and what to do when he/she is!! Grin

LadyKatieJ · 07/02/2012 09:17

not late, let! Blush

Thanks everyone. Some hopeful some not so hopeful I suppose.
Ellybet and nearlymum - that sounds fab - unfortunately it's the morning after and no further forward.
Meloondoo and others - I know they can't make me have a c-section and I'd be well within my rights to wait but I have thought about this a lot. For a while I thought about 'fighting the system' so to speak but have accepted their recommendations. SO I suppose its really my decision to go in on Fri for section although it kind of doesn't feel like that. Thanks for your advice though and suggestion of yahoo group.

I've struggled over it but am happy with my decision now. Unfortunately just too many factors to consider for reason for section.

All the best with home births. WIill keep you posted if anything happens soon.
