Sickness - how did you get through the day?

I'm only @5 weeks pregnant with DC2 and sickness is so much worse this time. Had to take a half day holiday on Friday as I felt so bad (wasn't off a single day with DC1 & I was sick every day from wk 6-16).

Last time sickness was horrible but at least regular, once in the morning before I left for work, once in the evening when I got home. Felt nauseus the whole day but managed to keep going.

This time I'm only on day 3 of sickness & I can't handle it! It's any old time of the day. I'm still only sick @2-3 times a day but it's just anyplace any time. We haven't told anyone yet & don't intend to until after the first scan.

How are you/did you deal with work? I've got quite a stressful job, lots of meetings, when not in meeting work closely with colleagues (all male if that makes a difference) & Im absolutely dreading this week at work.

Any coping mechanisms?

Ginger biscuits don't work for me, travel bands give me a migraine type headache, sweets kind of worked last time but this time are making me worse.

Please help me get through the next few (I hope) weeks.

PS I'm very happy to be pregnant

You poor thing! I found the only thing that worked for me was TOAST - rounds and rounds of toast! I don't think I suffered as much as you though, mostly nausea, not much vomming... I defo found that letting my stomach get too empty made it all much worse though. A friend of mine swore by rubbing fresh lemon juice on her top lip?!? I never tried it myself, but she had dreadful morning sickness and said this really eased it.
Hope you're feeling better soon and congratulations! Smile

Thanks pass.

I have to admit I'm not eating much & I know I should be. I've just been explaining to DH I'm so hungry but thinking of food makes me want to throw up.

I'll ask him to go make me some toast Grin

Have you tried travel sickness bands? I wore them religiously for my 2nd pregnancy and I was fine until I took them off to get in the shower or something and then got hit with nausea and sickness.
I think it's an acupressure thing and you can get them in boots.
Horrible isn't it Sad

I am now 12+1 and I've been exactly like you since the day I missed my period - alongside headaches, really sore boobs, and a cold.

The only thing thing that helped (but didn't get rid of it) was an anti emetic tablet from the doctor. I just couldn't have gotten through the days without it. Like you I'm in a pretty senior client facing role and needed to hide it - those tablets were the only thing that enabled me to do so - but they don't stop you throwing up or feeling sick, they just make it manageable.

Carbohydrates. Oh my word. The only food group that stave off the sickness. Unfortunately it's made me put on quite a bit of weight. :(

Ginger biscuits did bugger all, but strangely ginger beer and ice does help.

Fresh pineapple helped with my sickness. :)

I'm going to buy ginger beer & fresh pineapple in the morning.

Travel bands unfortunately don't work me Sad

Thanks!

Sipping ginger beer and a dash of lime constantly, teemed with nibbling on oatcakes/plain crackers was the only thing that I managed to stave off the nausea. I always had to have crackers somewhere on my person, especially at work when I was trying to hide my pregnanct :)

I normally can't stand ginger beer but I'm definitely going to get some tomorrow.

Shopping list:
Ginger beer
Fresh pineapple
fresh lemon juice
Crackers

If I turn up to work with these they'll prob think I'm pregnant & having strange cravings!

Last time salt & vinegar crisps & lemonade also helped - not this time though...
