Can't feel baby - 18 weeks

This is my 3rd pregnancy and I'm 18 weeks pregnant. I remember feeling fluttering at 17 weeks with my first and similar with my second. I've heard you feel the baby moving much earlier in subsequent pregnancies but I don't feel anything. I had a check up with the midwife and heard the heartbeat two weeks ago..am I worrying unnecessarily?

Just wondering if the placenta could be anterior and cushioning the movement? Or could just be a quiet/gentle baby. If you haven't felt anything yet, rather than having felt movements and now can't feel anything, I would think you don't need to worry, but you could call your midwife and see what he thinks?

THanks PiggyMad, I didn't even know the placenta position could influence movements, this is my 3rd, you'd think I'd be an expert by now! Yes may call the midwife, all the need to do is check with the doppler right or whatever that thingy is called!

I really didn't feel a thing until well after 22 weeks & I don't have an anterior placenta. Did hear the heartbeat on a few occasions from 16weeks onwards though, which reassured me. Prob good idea to call midwife tho if it will set your mind at rest.

Sometimes it takes a longer time to feel the movements. Even in the 3rd pregnancy.

As you mentioned you have already heard the heartbeat so I wouldn't worry too much.

i am midway through my 2nd pregnancy and was stressing for weeks because i thought i could remember feeling my first born at 17-18 weeks and wasn't feeling anything that i could reliably describe as kicks with this pregnancy. THen i went in for my 20 week scan and watched my little monkey basically doing back flips and somersaults in there and i couldn't feel a thing and i remembered thinking exactly the same thing with my first pregnancy. So i had been beating myself up for nothing. Am now 24 weeks and feeling lots of movement. It will come.

They say that the second trimester is the best because you dont have the symptoms of the 1st trimester or the discomforts of the 3rd trimester but i think in terms of anxiety i find the 2nd trimester the worst. You don't have a lot of symptoms to reassure you that all is going OK.

All my friends have said that they felt the baby a lot later on the second pregnancy (despite what they say about feeling them earlier with second pregnancies).

Why don't you get an appointment with your MW and ask her to listen in to the heartbeat. Should reassure you.
