Cant agree on a name!!

Me and him just cant agree on a boys name!! Girls are easy got a list as long as a piece of string!

I've thrown him over 100 boys names, he's rejected all of them and has decided if its a boy it will be called Callum.

No offence to anyone whos boy is called Callum but I just really dont like the name, its not very um.. well.. me I guess.

Any suggestions?

The middle names would be James (after him) Alan (his late dad)

I went through that same thing with my 1st son.

Mainly because I'm not english and don't want to give my child traditional english name.
After few weeks he was born we eventually agreed on one international name which also works in my country.

Now second time around we actually agreed on name few months before EDD :)

Oubliette0292 · 01/02/2012 20:21

Can you tell us some of the girls names you like so we can get an idea of the types of names you might be looking for?

Happenstance · 01/02/2012 20:23

Well i'm of the if you want to name him give birth to him camp Grin, but that may not be everyones cup of tea, but as the baby has his and his fathers name i think you should have the choice of first name, just tell him you really don't like Callum and it's not going to grow on you so you need to sit down together and find a name you do agree on.

Failing that wait till your mid contraction and anounce loudly to the whole room the babys name will be .... James Alan, and if he disagrees with you do the Labour Glare, it worked for me Grin

Seriously though tell him it's a joint decision and you would feel uncomfortable with that name.

emblosion · 01/02/2012 20:24

I feel your pain OP. My fiance has the infuriating habit of saying he likes a name and then inexplicably changing his mind/denying he ever said he liked it in the first place.

We can't agree on any and its driving me insane. He also likes to suggest totally ridiculous names - Agamemnon anyone? Hmm - at random.

I despair that the child will ever be named!

Happenstance · 01/02/2012 20:28

emblosion your DH sounds just like mine, doesn't like any i've suggested but so far has come up with SteveDave Hmm and Mach10 Hmm. hilarious arn't they

I'm going to wait till DC is here and tell him the names i have decided on :)

Flisspaps · 01/02/2012 20:36

eralch - from what I recall you and your DP aren't married (forgive me if I am wrong), meaning he can't go and register your child without you there so he can't just 'decide' what he or she will be called Wink

May I suggest that as this baby is coming out of your body, that you decide what he or she is called once they are born :) When he has to push the baby out of his body, then he can 'tell' you what the name will be.

emblosion · 01/02/2012 20:45

Oh Happenstance they are hilarious indeed! We've also had 'power' and 'chopper' suggested at this end, fgs.

SteveDave did make me laugh though!

eralch · 01/02/2012 20:46

lol im glad im not alone!

Some of the girls names are Kallie Jaye (Kallie is greek for beautiful), Megan, Alexis, Helen Joy (after my late grandmothers).

Im liking the labour stare idea although if i "abuse" him too much in their my younger brother is under orders to get him to the nearest pub lol.

No we arn't married yet, thats next year at Lake Bled in Slovenia lol.

Im half german and quater indian, he is totally Essex through and through.

He wants a name that cant be shortened, my name is Clare and its always been lengthened to Clarey Fairy or Clebbets and other such nicknames my dad and school friends chose lol.

My DH desperately wanted a particular middle name too, so I said that was fine as long as I could choose the first name, or his choice of middle name was a no no. It worked Wink

minitoot · 01/02/2012 20:46

You sound like me - I had a long list of girls' names and hardly any boys, and we're still not sure what to call him (am 21 weeks, though, so got a bit of time yet). And my DH can only seem to suggest silly names too.
Agree that you give birth to him, you name him!

eralch · 01/02/2012 20:47

oh and my dad is the one for weird names, Agamemnon was one of his too! And Achilles, Spartacus, Archibald, Herbert to name just a few...

boohome · 01/02/2012 20:52

DH didn't like any of my shortlisted boys names to begin with either. And he kept coming up with very silly names related to his favorite hobby.

DH's more sensible ideas included DH's name (vetoed as a first name, but made it in as DS's middle name), Percy, and Craig.

So every time we discussed it I suggested my favourite boys names. He cracked once DS arrived :)

Callum sounds a bit like Alan too, I think. Unless I'm pronouncing it wrong?

boohome · 01/02/2012 20:54

eralch - can't Callum be shortened to "Cal"?

MillyStar · 01/02/2012 20:56

Why do these blokes make up names that they think are hilarious!!

My partner keeps telling people that we're calling ours Terald (Terry/Gerald) then he giggles - we're having a girl by the way!!

We've decided on Milly and he keeps calling her Milbert which annoys me!

MEN

eralch · 01/02/2012 20:57

Thats exactly what I told him Boo!

And yes it does sound like Alan.

DH and I are having the same problem. He wants to call ds2 'Peter' which I really dislike. He doesn't like any of my suggestions, so I am hoping when the baby arrives we will be able to name him. Perhaps dh's will be more amenable once they have a gorgeous newborn to hold. That's what I am hoping! Hope you find a lovely name for your baby.

justhayley · 01/02/2012 23:48

I think men should be banned from the naming process mine has come up with some shockers as well! I think considering the 2 middle names are his choice you should get your choice for the first, why should he have all the fun! I don't mind Calum - not my fav but its not bad, although I know a few and they are all known as Cal!

Love Megan for a girl think it's super pretty - maybe you could do Morgan or Mason for a boy - kinda similar I guess. My fav name at the mo is Mason with James as a middle name Smile I do think with two short middle names a 2/3 syllable first name is needed though.

Hope u reach a joint decision soon - but if not I'm with the others, and will deff be using the, iv been sick, I'm the one who's boobs will drop, get stretch marks, have to go through the worst pain known to man kind, I'm having my way on the name card
Grin good luck

MrsLister · 02/02/2012 08:28

My husband refuses to talk about names until we're well past the 12 week mark but OBVIOUSLY I've started compiling a list of names!

Thing is - I'm definitely having final veto on the middle names - after my Grandad if it's a boy, my mum (who passed away when I was 22) if it's a girl.

Does this mean he gets to choose the first name? Gah!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 22/02/2012 11:27

Grin at Fliss. If you aren't married, please don't give the baby his last name either, give it yours. It will be easy to change to his name once you are both married.

As for names that can't be shortened, we have a Kim and a Sam in the family, both named for that reason. Kim is always known as Kimbo or Kimmy and Sam is always Sammy. Just choose a name you love.

milk · 22/02/2012 11:43

DH and I decided I would name the first child, and he'd name the second.

I love DS name :D It is just now I am pregnant with DC2 and I hate my husbands names :(

HidingInTheUndergrowth · 22/02/2012 12:03

I'm 37 weeks and we have come up with middle names for a girl or boy but are failing completly with coming up with first names. Everyone looks at me like I am mad when I say we haven't decided on names yet but I figure we'll come up with something once we have actually met the child in question. It's not like you have to register a name straight away, you can take some time to think about it if you want.
