I have hypermobility syndrome (this year..could be something else by next year) after having issues with my joints all my life. I am now 9+3 pregnant and already starting to have more pain than usual from my hip.

Has anyone else got or heard or anyone pregnant with this?

Im starting to get a bit worried because i have been diagnosed with that many things over the years, each diagnosis squashing the old diagnosis that no one seems to know what will happen to me when Im pregnant. One doctor said that "I would probably be able to carry but whether Id walk again is another thing" and Im just looking for anyone who has experienced pregnancy with either HMS or other joint issues.

Midwife is aware and just said Id probably end up under a consultant and ticked the high risk box.

Hi,

I have had three pregnancies with hypermobility - I don't have HMS but still have joint issues. First pregnancy was fine, second again ok apart from mild SPD, third severe SPD. My saving grace has been a brilliant osteopath who actually recognised my symptoms (after years of being fobbed off!) and sorted out sacro-iliitis for me. He thinks that my first pregnancy aggrevated it and progressively got worse with each pregnancy as it went undiagnosed by GP / Rheumatologist / Orthopaedics. All of my pain from SI joint being inflamed was referred into my hip.

I am pregnant with number 4 and will be seeing my osteopath regularly to try and maintain my joints. I have mild SPD symptoms at 15w, pretty much expecting it to get worse but knowing how to fix it afterwards will hopefully keep me going :)

hi, i have HMS, and am 34 weeks. the only complication i've had is SPD, which unfortunately has got progressivly worse. I found the HMS website really useful. I've also found ante-natal pilates great (esp in early days) as this makes your core muscles stronger, therefore carrying the weight of a bump later on easier. As far as joint pain goes, make an effort to stand up straight, pulling your shoulders back-this will help your whole body, when standing still (e.g post office queue!) make sure you stand with feet hip width apart, and don't 'sit' on one side, and finally if you do manage any exercise, be careful not to hyper-extend, you want to try and maintain stregnth in your ligaments. Best of luck!
