Over last few days been getting very bad headaches (never normally suffer from them) - a few people have said it may be worth getting checked out as could be start of pre-eclampsia - are there any other symptoms for this?

where are you in your pregnancy?

Nbg · 21/01/2006 14:06

Puffiness in the ankles and or face.

It could be your BP.

Protein in urine, consistent high blood pressure, sudden onset of puffiness in face are the main ones to look out for. Also flashing lights in front of eyes, gastric pain, severe headaches and vomiting.

How far on are you? It is always worth getting unusual symptoms checked out - to set your mind at rest if nothing else.

Pre-eclampsia CAn be symptomless though, so you should never, ever take any risks at all with headaches etc in pg, I thought my Pre-eclampsia was the flu at first.

Pre-eclampsia is also potentially fatal for you and the baby so you MUST get in checked out- a very simple urine test at the local unit will do that for you, with a BP check.

Of course, it IS probably a headache but please, don't take risks with this cruel illness. It's commoner than you think.

How are you?

Mandymoo · 21/01/2006 23:15

hi mandymoo, this may sound odd but do you wear glasses? i found i had bad headaches when pregnant and wear my glasses more each time, soon after giving birth i can birtually give up my glasses most days.

Maddison · 22/01/2006 00:06

HI Mandymoo

I had really bad headaches with both my pregnancies. When I was pg with DS2 I spoke to a midwife at the hospital who said it could be the things already mentioned here, but she also said it could be due to dehydration, so she advised me to take paracetamol and drink plenty of water.

HTH and hope you feel better soon xx
