Doesn't strike me as a good combination. Mears/anyone else who knows - what should I be doing? DH has just taken ds1 off to be swabbed and hopefully started on anti bs (lots of this at his school and he has had a sore, red throat and high fever for 2 days now) - but presumeably the other 2 and dh and I could be incubating this too. What are the implications for my home birth? I just know that strep and newborns don't mix.... and info at all much appreciated

ta in advance

My son had scarlet fever when I was pregnant (but not close to the due date) and it was ok for me to get it - wouldn't have hurt the baby. Of course, that's not your situation at all!

Am guessing you want to know about taking prophylactic antibiotics. In your situation, I'd probably do that - I did, in fact, do that when I was exposed to bacterial meningitis while pregnant as the danger from the antibiotics was less than the danger to the baby from the disease. Also, I tested pos for Group B Strep in both pregnancies so was given prophylactic antibiotics during labour.

But then again, what works for my family and me might not be the right choice for yours. Good luck and your poor son. Being quarantined in hospital was the pits.

thanks very much for posting.

ds was swabbed this afternoon, but they haven't put him on antibs yet since they say they don't know if he IS streppy or not. So I guess if it comes back positive on monday we will all be on antibs?
Hope he comes back clear.
He really isn't bad at all, it is just that there is so much in his school at the moment I can't ignore it.
thanks
