Hi Ladies, wondering if you can help...

My DSis is pregnant with DC2 - 18 weeks.

DC1 was born full term and healthy, but small (4lb4oz) for no apparent reason. DSis was told at the birth that she also had a small placenta.

Anyway, 8 years on, DSis met with consultant yesterday who said she must have 4 weekly scans, weekly urine and bp checks. They also want her to take daily aspirin and have said it may have been high bp or pre-eclampsa which made DC1 small.

She has been cautious not to take anything so far, so a sudden daily dose of aspirin sounds a bit scary! I have told her not to use Dr.Google!

So... does anyone know about taking aspirin in pregnancy, or does her situation sound familiar to anyone?? Some reassurance would be great!!

TIA x

Hi,

I have been told to take 75mg of aspirin once a day and some extra vit D (am taking pregnancare multi preg vitamin consultant said this should be enough to get extra vits). By taking these in combination it should reduce the risk of pre-eclampsia this time so probably why they are asking your sister to take. I am allowed to take it until 37 weeks unless advised differently depends on when I look likely to give birth.

Google will give her positives and negatives but in the main a low dose of aspirin is recommended by most consultants for preventing pre-eclampsia in second and subsequent pregnancies.

Yes I have taken aspirin on all 3 of my pregnancies as I have a history of pre-eclampsia and a small baby. It is fairly standard. Think to take 75mg in such cases. I have just had to stop mine though this time as I have been crippled with heartburn.

Just to say,it didn't prevent PE for me but my second baby grew normally and so far this one is too. I was on it until 36 wks for my last two pregnancies.

Thanks so much for your replies. Nice to know that the aspirin thing is fairly standard. I'm off to Google it for some more info.
Good luck with your pregnancies!
