12 week scan

Just a quick question for the morning ladies...

Is your 12 week scan during your 12th week of pregnancy (ie 11+x) or your 13th week of pregnancy (12+x).

Wondering as my dh is likely to be away with work one of these weeks and I haven't had my date through for the scan yet and wanted to make a best guess at when it will be so we can try and make sure he is at home.

Thank you!

Theoretically it should be once you're in 13th week but it depends on your NHS unit. Some do it earlier, some later, depending on how many ladies they have to see. You're unlikely to have much influence over when exactly the appointment will be, in my experience.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Thank you! I realise that I'll have no influence on the appointment I'm given, but we have some influence over when dh goes away, he can arrange his meetings within a certain timeframe.

I just get confused over the whole x weeks pregnant and xth week of pregnancy malarky.

Thanks again x

My local borough tries to fit women in from 11 weeks to 14 for their '12 week' scan. So it's a bit of an inexact science I'm afraid! You could ring and try and influence, my place made sure to arrange my midwife appointment and scan appointment on the same day to make it easier for me (one app at the GP in the morning and then hospital in the afternoon) - so they can work together to help people out if required.

It depends what appts are available when u book. Mine was at 11+3

Mine wouldn't do before 12 and a half as they said they couldn't do the nuchal fold measurement before 12 and wanted a few days in case dates were slightly out.

It's supposed to be between 11+0 and 13+6 for the NT scan. Obviously they aim for the middle (ie 12 weeks) because if your dates are out either way, it will still be possible to do the measurement. Also I think 12 weeks is the optimal time for the NT measurement.
